WASHINGTON (APUPI) Amidst growing outrage at his comparisons of US troops to Pol Pot's regime, Nazis and Stalin's Gulag, Illinois Senator Richard Durbin backed off from his earlier comments today, reading from a prepared statement outside his office that he hadn't meant to directly compare the situations:
"I realize that my comments unjustly slandered many people in southeast Asia and other places who were simply trying to achieve a better society, and did not intend to compare what they did to the horrific atrocities that were occuring, and continue to occur, in Guantanamo. I wish to deeply apologize to those, like International A.N.S.W.E.R, who properly took umbrage at such an odious comparison. I hope that this apology will finally lay this issue to rest."
He refused to take any further questions.

What the hell kind of apology is that? I think he needs to try again and quit mentioning "atrocities" at Gitmo! What a perfect bottom feeder Durbin is!

Read my post #3.I think the confusion on this thread is really because it's believable. LOL.
Now I need some coffee, it's gonna be a long next 3 1/2 years.

The apology that really isn't an apology. Who does he apologize to - ANSWER, a Communist front organization. Where is the apology to our troops, to the citizens of the United States? He still stands by his treasonous & seditious comments which have put American lives at risk. Where is his resignation? This man is a disgrace to public service.Unfortunately, his colleagues (Republicans included) in the spirit of "good old boy" brotherhood, will not impeach him. "Leaky" Leahy got away with compromising U.S. Intelligence operations in the '80s - which resulted in the deaths of CIA operatives - & this loser was simply shuttled from the Intelligence Committee to the Judiciary Committee where he has done even more damage. Our Congress has become so corrupt & self serving,
it can no longer police itself or take care of our National Security.

I don't read this as an apology to our Troops,I read it as an apology to Cambodia!
In this Statement he is still saying ,that what we do with the prisoners at Gitmo is worth then what they /Pol Pot did!IMO
To: NonZeroSum
i hope his words come back and bite him in the ass at the next election.

I dunno, Mike. Florida has more that its share of strange happenings. But at least the politicians on both sides are fairly sane unlike the unhinged Durbins, Kennedys and Deans of this world.
Will be going to the white sand beach today, heheh.
Nice hearing from you.

To little too late. Besides, this idiot Senator was corned and an apology isn't enough. He should resign or be censured.

I think the confusion on this thread is really because it's believable. LOL.It's because these people are becoming ever more difficult to satirize. It reminds me of this old Al Gore thread, based on another post of an article by the same author.

Not the usual goofy ping, but an interesting study in reading comprehension.
Even after (Humor) was added to the title after 40 posts.

...an interesting study in reading comprehension.I don't think it's reading comprehension, per se. I think that many people are simply satire challenged.
