Durbin tried to rewrite his quote last night.
Senate Rocord [Page: S6716] ^ | 6-16-05 | Dick Durbin

Posted on 06/17/2005 6:15:18 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

(6-16) Mr. DURBIN. What I have said is, if you were asked, without being told where this might have occurred, as I said here directly in the RECORD, you might conclude that it was done by one of those repressive regimes because that was the kind of heavy-handed tactic they used, the kind of inhumane treatment in which they engaged. You would be surprised to learn that according to the FBI, it was something that occurred at Guantanamo in a facility under the control of the United States of America.

WRONG!!

Anyone see the word "MIGHT" in his original quote?

(6-14) Durbin: "If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners."

I got a kick out of his attempt to blame it all on the "right wing media".

Great catch.

I watched him last evening trying to get around it. Good for Warner, McConnell, and Sessions smacking him down.

Is there a video or wave file of his statement online? The last time I heard it on television, I could have sworn when he got to the end sentence: "This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners," that he stumbled and started saying "our prisoners" and then changed it to "their prisoners."

Can anyone else verify this for me?

Was using the word "our" a Freudian slip on Durbin's part? Could be since it seems that he's more concerned with the treatment of the enemy than he is of anything else.

"The Durbin Award"

"The Durbin Award" is established this date and will be awarded annually to the lowest POS treasonous bastard who holds public office in our fair land.

Fashioned in the likeness of Benedict Arnold on one side and the sleaze Durbin on the other, this miniature statuette is sculpted out of various forms of dung and is kept frozen 24/7 except on "Durbin Day", the day the POS is displayed and awarded to the newest POS to win the award.

IMPEACH DURBIN. IMPEACH DURBIN. He does not deserve to sit in that seat one minute longer.

There is no other option!!!! Remove him from his post for COMPARING our military men and women NAZIS!

McConnell's attempt to "smack him down" was quite feeble. McConnell alleged that Durbin's remarks were based on "this one incident" which is manifestly false. At least 10 prisoners have died at Gitmo and in Iraq and Afghanistan as a result of torture, murder, and harsh treatment by U.S. troops.

Sen. McConnell doesn't have the integrity or guts to admit that at least 10 deaths amount to more than one little incident.

Last night I was struck by an odd thought that seems to work for me.

The democrats remind me of the chimpanzee (General Thade?) in the 2001 planet of the apes flick when he realizes that his power is slipping away. He went totally insane and ran the gammut of emotions from rage to bargaining to begging back to rage throwing himself screaming against the wall.
