I wondered why her family would not have hired a private detective to flesh out the validity of this story. If found to be true, I think I would then hire my own private militia to rescue my daughter.
According to justshutupandtakeit, Holloway is dead. I hadn't heard that yet.

I heard early on that we had sent people to Venezuela to investigate. It seems to me that Natalee must be dead. I would think that the perp would do himself a favor by revealing that she was sold into white slavery if he had done that. I would think things would go a lot easier for him if she were found alive. Since he hasn't talked, I assume she's dead. But I hope I'm wrong.
Yeah...in Miami Beach, for all those hot-to-trot 80 year-old widows.
I know the one you're speaking of but this was recent, as in this spring. Poor guy probably fell overboard. I know the Coast Guard etc spent time looking, to no avail.
I know.
But something has to make the story newsworthy. In the Holloway case, race didn't have anything to do with it, IMHO.
What gave this particular story it resonance is that the girl was young, and on a school graduation trip, making it a parent's worst nightmare.
For the first couple days, I never saw a picture of the girl, and no mention was ever made of her race. It was enough that she was young, on a school trip, and the chaperones had been ditched for a fling with tragic results.
Couldn't they have sent detectives to Caracus to investigate or did they?

Well, at this late date, given the tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela, I don't think anyone investigators from the U.S. would be sent there now.
Off limits for whom?
Sailors, I assume.
The only way someone can fall out of their room is if they can crawl through the porthole.
The brothel had burned down by the time authorities found out about the incident.
Like I said, I hadn't heard about it. That's a shame. I'm willing to bet people fall overboard more frequently than we realize.
Some of us like to hold out hope for miracles. You may say that is gullible or ignoring the facts but I like to refer to it as being optimistic.

Actually, you can't fall out the porthole -- on the ships I've been on, the "porthole" (most newer ships now have real windows) is sealed shut. Now, if you have a room with a balcony, it's possible to fall overboard. And certainly, there are other locations on the ship (besides her room) where she could have fallen.
Interesting, it was last fall. I did a google search and came up with this article:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8113883/
'At least 12 missing or overboard in 6 years'
I think it basically doesn't happen but people like the idea so much because it's so tititilating.
Uh, a lot of cruise ship cabins have balconies, and in the version I read, her brother last saw her on her rooms balcony.
Very interesting article. Thanks for sharing.
I like the guy who fell overboard, but says he didn't think he had enough alcohol in him to fall overboard. Hate to tell him, but it may take very little alcohol for it to happen.
