A highly classified intelligence report produced for the new director of national intelligence concludes that U.S. spy agencies failed to recognize several key military developments in China in the past decade, The Washington Times has learned. The report was created by several current and former intelligence officials and concludes that U.S. agencies missed more than a dozen Chinese military developments, according to officials familiar with the report. The report blames excessive secrecy on China's part for the failures, but critics say intelligence specialists are to blame for playing down or dismissing evidence of growing Chinese military capabilities.

According to officials familiar with the intelligence report, the word "surprise" is used more than a dozen times to describe U.S. failures to anticipate or discover Chinese arms development.

That should be no surprise since Clinton gutted the intelligence agencies.

Deployment of a new attack submarine known as the Yuan class that was missed by U.S. intelligence until photos of the submarine appeared on the Internet.

I feel better now.

Let me guess...they have better missles to shoot at us because Clinton gavethem the technology. They have better nuclear bombs because they had spies at Los Alamos Clinton never caught.

Thanks for the link. It makes you wonder how our country is in as good of a shape as it is with all the crap Clinton left us with. I don't think our country will ever know or recover completely from all the damage he did to us.

And in spite of China talking about its military modernization for the past ten years.

We've been talking about the Chinese building in this forum for the last 6+ years. Any "analyst" who missed this is a moron. This is more like political CYA for limp wristed wimps who finally realize that we've got to challenge the Chinese on their own terms over Taiwan -- and that means WAR.

A metal scrap dealer told me a few years ago that he was expanding his business because demand for his precious and non-precious metals was huge. The buyers were Chinese. He said the last time a foreign country (Japan) bought up all USA's metals, they built war machines to attack us. He said China was readying to do this to USA again. History repeats itself, and we're supposed to be surprised?

There is a great story here. Various members of the CIA and the military attempted to lay out the Chinese strategy and make the administration of both George Sr and Clinton understand where things were going. Clinton actually sat there and sold Cray super-computers...although the pentagon said an absolute "no" to the deal...so Clinton simply took away their ability to halt the sale, and gave it to the commerice department, who prompty sold the computers. I will not fault any of the intelligence analysts...they all tried...and the politicans involved simply didn't understand or agree. In Clinton's case, he actually took campaign money to ensure his "friends" were happy...and I doubt seriously if he understood who was directly behind his "friends".

Yes, my son, who works for Nucor steel, says the reason steel is so high now is because a HUGE amount of it goes to China.

This, along with the stories I hear about China's stranglehold on our economy, worries me very much.

Not to mention their little pet with the nukes in North Korea.

It was easy to miss the Chinese military buildup during the Clinton years when Bill and Hill never missed their deliveries of sacks of cash from Johnny Chung. Why is this never mentioned in these articles? We all remember who was in office ten years ago.
