Immigration Reform May Push Tancredo Into Presidential Race

Given Right Circumstances, 'I'll Run,' Says Colorado Republican ---

NASHUA, N.H. -- U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo says he is so dissatisfied with the pace and direction of immigration reform, he is considering running for president to deal with it himself.

"If no one is willing to pick up the banner ... yeah, I'll run," the Colorado Republican said Saturday during a visit to the state with the earliest presidential primary.

"Though I say that with a great deal of trepidation. It seems like a daunting task. But we need to get a president in there who will support this," he said. "I don't know what else to do."

Once, New Hampshire might have seemed an unusual backdrop for taking a stand on illegal immigration. But recently the state has been the focus of heated debate on just that issue.

Citing a need to uphold national security, several police chiefs have been using criminal trespassing laws to press charges against illegal aliens found in their communities.

The tactic, which has been challenged in court, has drawn praise and criticism from around the country.

Tancredo first visited New Hampshire in February, when he gave an award to New Ipswich police Chief Garrett Chamberlain, calling the chief a national hero for charging illegal immigrants with trespassing.

Tancredo said the reason for his visit to New Hampshire, and eventually to Iowa, is to get a leader in the White House who understands the threat illegal immigrants pose to the country's security.

He said federal prisons overflow with illegal immigrants, some of whom aim to harm people.

"And they need to be found before it is too late. They're coming here to kill you, and you, and me, and my grandchildren," he said, pointing at people in the audience. "It's just despicable."

"It's just despicable."

I'll support him if he runs on this, and has his head basically screwed on right about other things.

If he's real, that would be you, me, and millions of others supporting him.

It's amazing that Tancredo seems to be the ONLY one that hears what the grassroots are yelling about. If he's also clean, he's got the votes. Everyone is looking for someone like that.

We really need him badly to run just to show how much thisissue is driving the electorate these days. Hell, a savvy pol just might get elected hisself elected Caesar on this issue if he played his cards right. I think the state of this republic has sunk far enough that we're purt near ready for a strong man to take over... public order just has to break down a little.

You know... I was thinking earlier. I sort of want to immanentize the eschaton, because I don't think waiting and letting the pressure build does any good. When there needs to be a war, I think you might as well have it because it'll happen sooner or later.

But then I think, do I really want another 1968? 1969? 1970? 1971? Or worse, much worse. We've never really had it out with the communists, once and for all. It's not something to be desired.

I'm not sure somebody necessarily has to be squeaky clean if he's man enough to stand up and accept the crucifixion of the media and be washed clean by the scourging. Yeah, I did it (whatever it was), no I'm not going to apologize, screw you it's none of your business, no I'm not going to talk about it any more. I think that must be what Newt is planning to do.

I like the guy. I don't think "temporary guest worker" is in his vocabulary. Neither, most likely, is "religion of peace."

President Patrick Buchanan won on this issue in 1996 and 2000, right?

Even though write ins don't count in California unless the candidate is a registered candidate I wrote him in in the primary against Bush just as a protest vote. I would sure vote for him if he was a candidate.

If he runs, he has my vote. Even if he doesn't win his running will finally bring this issue to the front burner.
Bush is a joke, in bed with big business who is selling the American worker out for cheap wages. His daddy's "one world government" is all he has in mind. Its a disgrace that 80% of the citzens of this country demand the Trojan horse of illegal aliens must go home and the borders secured, only to be ignored by congress, the President and the media.

Tom Tancredo speaks a language I understand...it's called American.

Translation: "Anyone one would be better than me as long as he is whacko enough to give up all hope of winning."

It's not just the issues that one runs on that matters, it's also who is running. Even if Buchanan took all of the correct positions on all of the issues important to most Americans, he still would never be elected President.
