We really need him badly to run just to show how much thisissue is driving the electorate these days. Hell, a savvy pol just might get elected hisself elected Caesar on this issue if he played his cards right. I think the state of this republic has sunk far enough that we're purt near ready for a strong man to take over... public order just has to break down a little.
You know... I was thinking earlier. I sort of want to immanentize the eschaton, because I don't think waiting and letting the pressure build does any good. When there needs to be a war, I think you might as well have it because it'll happen sooner or later.
But then I think, do I really want another 1968? 1969? 1970? 1971? Or worse, much worse. We've never really had it out with the communists, once and for all. It's not something to be desired.
"We really need him badly to run just to show how much thisissue is driving the electorate these days."
President Patrick Buchanan won on this issue in 1996 and 2000, right?
We just had a Republican primary this week in Ohio for a safe Congressional seat. Out of 11 Republican candidates, none chose to make it an issue. Illegal immigration is one of those things that everyone says they're against, but only a very tiny minority rank it as one of their top concerns.
Any candidate who screams like Howard Dean that "They're coming here to kill you, and you, and me, and my grandchildren," will be recognized for what he is.
