all are pro-life, and all support the president, the war on terror, gun ownership and tax cuts at every turn.

Good. Terrorists aren't taking away my freedom, the government is.

Those conservatives who support the unnecessary and dangerous erosions of our individual rights, which is what the Patriot act does - may rue their decision when a liberal government down the line uses it to threaten our first and second amendment rights, among other things. We don't need big brotherism to stop terrorists.

To: Anybody

Has anyone here, for or against the Patriot Act, actually read the thing?

Just curious.

Do not grant to the Federal Government any powers today that you do not want Hillary to have tomorrow.

Just ask yourself,

"If Hillary were President, would you want her to have these powers?"

Wait until the dems win and expand the "patriot" act to include guns and a national registry. Maybe that will wake you guys up to the fact that there's more than one amendment we need to be protecting.

This is rapidly becoming my top issue. I want to see the Bill of Rights restored from the assualts on it over the past century or more.

Anyone interested in defending the country? Hello? As the World War II expression had it, "Haven't you heard, there's a war on." These concerns about the Patriot Act will last until the next terrorist attack, when everyone will be hollering, "Why didn't we do something?"

Well .. I don't agree with Bob Barr and all his "groups".

If anybody can show me EVEN ONE CASE WHERE SOMEONE HAS LOST THEIR CIVIL LIBERTIES - I'm all ears.

Until then .. I have only one small nit-picky thing I'm not sure about .. and that the search warrant without a judge's order. However, I found out by reading some of the text - that this expansion is only for AN ALREADY DOCUMENTED JUDGE APPROVED SEARCH WARRANT. In other words - a judge has to have already approved an initial warrant - before the police agency could expand the warrent (without having to get further approval) to include things like computer systems. And .. after looking at the computers - if they find suspicious email addresses .. they might need to check them out quickly before the hard drive is removed or destroyed.

From what I understand it would also include searching any new location which might have resulted from the initial search.

That is important .. because when you have made a house search .. and you discover there is another location .. you want to be able to go IMMEDIATELY and search the other location before the suspect has an opportunity to contact anyone to clean out the place.

And .. say the police find a ledger with a list of other locations involved in the crime - it would be imperative to be able to do a massive search of ALL the other locations at one time.

I also oppose the so called patriot act. I opposed it then, and oppose it now.

Calling this big government scheme a "patroit act" is a slap in the face to real patriots everywhere.

The cannot be supportive of the President if they are against the Patriot Act.

The PA is a necessary tool in the fight against internal enemies - and they are here and active. Those against it are either naive fools or hoping that America will be defeated.

Conservatives, liberals align against Patriot Act

Which are the authors (Andrew Young and Gary Hart), Liberal or Conservative?

From many of the FR postings, one must assume that AW and GH represent mainstream conservatism. On second thought; they do.

I have one thought that should send chills up the spine of every conservative who is considering renewal/permanent enactment of the Patriot Act:

President Hillary Clinton

Good. I think the 'Patriot Act' is more harm than good for most of us. You may be in favor of it now, but how will you feel about it when a huge Government liberal is in power and would consider this site to be a domestic terrorist organization. How will you like to hear language like "only a terrorist would want to have guns like that"? It can and probably will happen. John Kerry even did it to some extent in the 04 campaign by saying allowing the sale of "assault weapons" we are helping terrorists.

We lasted well over 200 years in this country with no patriot act in place and didn't have a terrorist attack until 911. This largely due to the fact that we had 8 years of nothing to prevent a 911. Yet during this time we had 'Waco'. Imagine what would happen when such people get back into power and they have something like the patriot act at their disposal.
