They're equally bad on gun issues - the NRA isn't making an endorsement in that race, where they've endorsed Kilgore for Gov and Bolling for Lt Gov.
Hmmm. I will check him out. I did notice, there were no glaring differences between the two, that is why I asked.
Thanks :)
This is a tough one. But my congressman Virgil Goode is quoted as being heavilly on McDonnell's side, particularly regarding gun rights, which Goode takes very seriously. But Steve Baril has some hard-hitting accusations about McDonnell:
1. Not supporting more state troopers.
2. Supporting gun rationing!
3. A $317 million raid on Virginia's transportation trust fund. [I know some areas really suffered from transportation raids.]
4. Possible conflicts of interest during trials, as I understand the accusation.
But what to make of these accusations? No idea yet. I don't trust the look of McDonnell. Baril looks more real to me, comfortable in his skin, less like a model-- not that I trust my view of how someone looks. But Virginia needs a political shakeup. So I guess for now, unless things are made more clear, I'll go for change with Baril.
Here's the big ethics food fight:

McDonnell has made some accusations of his own, but I think Baril appears less sleazy.
All our candidates seem strong this year, don't they? I'm having a tough time deciding who to vote for.
Bolling and McDonnell have excellent Pro-Life/Pro-Family voting records in the General Assembly.
Baril and Connaughton don't have a record on those issues. One would have to take them on their word.
Besides, Russ Potts has endorsed both Baril and Connaughton which ought to tell you something. Talk about the kiss of death....
This is a post and run...got to work the polls tomorrow.
Thanks, Flora!
I voted for Bolling.
Virginia Society for Human Life endorsed Kilgore, Bolling and McDonnell for the Gov/Lt. Gov/Atty Genl races.
Connoughton is endorsed by liberal Republican Tom Davis, the VEA teacher's union and backstabber Russell Potts....3 good reasons to support BOLLING for Lt. Gov.
BTW this is in Loudoun County.
Turnout in most places will be miniscule.
Didn't you just love the lt. gov. commercials where both accused the other of raising taxes 5,000 times and both claimed to cut taxes? Either somebody's lying or it just shows how facts and statistics can be manipulated.
I haven't voted yet - but will report #s when I do get back.
Of course I live in a really tiny precinct, so I'm not sure if the numbers here will really even matter.
I was number 10 at my polling place at 7:15. It's amazing such a small group of voters has such a large voice on Primary Day. I always like when the Primary is over because the mudslinging gets a little too much for me, even when the candidates try and keep it to a minimum.
I will be voting after work.
I was going for Connoughton, endorsed by liberal Republican Tom Davis [who got me a ticket to the Inaugural :)]... but when any TEACHER association endorses him... that, I DON'T LIKE!... But what about the allegations he raised taxes? Not true at all?

Kilgore (yes)
Connoughton or Bolling (Undecided yet)
Baril (yes)
Two things about the Washington (Com)Post:
First, they endorsed Kilgore as well as Connaughton in the GOP primary, so that doesn't mean that Connaughton will tow their line any more than Kilgore will.
Second, I wouldn't be surprised if the Post endorsed Connaughton in order to try and give him the kiss of death in the primary. Same goes for the VEA. I think they both view him as more electable than Bolling in November and are looking to stop him now. When you have Dem leaders urging their party members to cross over in the primary to vote for Bolling for Lt. Gov. because they think he'll be easier to beat in November, it makes you wonder about their allies motivations, too.
Here are my choices
Kilgore (yes)
Connaughton (yes)
Baril (yes).
Isn't there a Conservative organization of some kind, that would do this easier for the conservative voter?
Well, true blue conservatives are supporting all six of the candidates running for the three offices.
I voted for Kilgore, Connaughton and McDonnell as well as a number of other conservatives I know. Two very good friends of mine voted for Fitch, Connaughton and Baril. Other good friends of mine are voting for Kilgore, Bolling and McDonnell. All these people are conservatives -- pro-life and pro-tax cuts.
Personally, I think this particular election is more about style than substance since there isn't much daylight between any of them on anything. Sure, you'll hear accusations of this and that coming from both sides in each race, but that is the only way they can get any traction against one another.
Look for big wins by Kilgore and McDonnell tonight and a nail-biter in the LG race. Turnout is the wildcard and it sounds very, very low. Bolling's base in the Richmond area appears to be one of the areas with the lowest turnout according to this just in from the Richmond Times Dispatch:
In the heavily Republican Richmond suburb of western Henrico County, for example, only 167 of the 3,200 registered voters had cast ballots at Tuckahoe Elementary School by 10 a.m. Of those voters, 150 cast ballots for Republican candidates. At nearby Grove Avenue Baptist Church, only 37 people had voted by 11 a.m.
I know nothing really about Mr Baril. I hope I won't be dissapointed :)
Happy Voting!
