THE WASHINGTON TIMES
A multidrug-resistant tuberculosis known as MDR-TB is persistent in California, primarily among its "foreign-born" population, and has serious financial implications for the state's public-health system, federal and state health officials said yesterday. "Treatment for MDR-TB is very expensive -- ranging from $200,000 to $1.2 million per person, over an 18- to 24-month time period," said Dr. Reuben Granich, a lead investigator for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, during a press conference in the District yesterday. Dr. Granich's findings were published yesterday in tomorrow's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in an article co-written with California health officials. The article studied 38,291 reported tuberculosis cases in California from 1994 to 2003. Of those, 407 were classified as drug-resistant and were found mostly in patients from Mexico or the Philippines, Dr. Granich said.

"Treatment for MDR-TB is very expensive -- ranging from $200,000 to $1.2 million per person, over an 18- to 24-month time period," Makes a heart transplant look like chump change. How easy is it for one of these to give it to an American? It would bankrupt 99% of Americans. Economic terrorism, and nobody has to plan it.

Even with that a wad of these start hitting private insurers (self insured employers) we will see such a screaming to Congress as history has yet to behold. And the next president of the USA will be Howard Dean.

Now is the time for those that are infected with TB from illegals or not to sue the U.S. Gov. for helping spread the disease. (Reason) For not maintaining a safe immigration into this country when given the tools to do so, failure to perform their jobs as outlined in the Constitution of the U.S.

Wasn't there a time when our borders were controlled and immigrants who were sick were not let in? I thought Ellis Island etc did some health screening.
Is it really so difficult to think that was the wrong policy? Must be. WE seem to have come far from that philosophy.

Exactly. Ellis Island quarantined any immigrants that were sick and separated those that could be cured with those that couldn't. The ones that couldn't be cured were returned to their home country.
But that was the good 'ol days when the government actually cared about its citizens' health.
