A Second Temple Jewish house has been uncovered in Jerusalem's ancient City of David, Israel's Antiquities Authority announced Sunday.
The 2,000 year old private home, which archeologists believe was part of a complex of homes belonging to affluent people, was discovered during an excavation at the history-rich site last month.
Several rooms of the split-level house - as well as a ritual bath - were found at the compound, archeologist Tzvika Greenhaut who was charged with excavation at the site said.
The plot of land, located across from the Kidron Valley in the present day Arab neighborhood of Silwan, is owned by the right-wing Elad organization, which works to resettle Jews in east Jerusalem.
"We are talking about a house belonging to a very rich family," Greenhaut said, noting that the ruins were hewn into the rock in a very high standard.
The newly uncovered site will be open to the public, he said.
Well the koranimals always twist everything that should be there middle name!
So, how many Volvos did they find?
:) Missed the correction. Sorry 'bout that.
How are the genetic markers of "Palestinians" distinguished from "Jordanians" "Egyptians" "Syrians" "Kuwaitis" and "Saudi Arabians"?
There are probably problems when it comes to the Egyptians since there was extensive colonization of the place by "True Arabs", Romans, Greeks, Carthaginians, Persians and others.
There will undoubtedly be more information in the future concerning these relationships. At the moment most of the stuff involving Jews pretty much proves out the Abraham/Isaac/Jacob/Joseph thesis that gets a good Sumerian boy overland to where his family ends up living in Egypt.
Moses addressed this question directly.
"The true Arabs are the people of northern Arabia, the Nefud, and the arid portions of Syria, Jordan and Iraq (the Byzantine Emperor Leo who repelled the Umayyad assault on Constantinople was of Arab descent, of the Ghassanid line of Syria). All other "Arabs" are Arabicized peoples, whether that be closely related ones such as the people of Yemen (Sabaeans) or the Levant (Armaeans), or more distant peoples such as Egyptians (Copts) or Maghrebis (Berbers)."
Notice that Kurds, Palestinians/Philistines, and Jews do not fit into the above definition of what constitutes an Arab.
Turns out they aren't Arabs even if they speak Arabic. This is particularly so when it comes to the very Arabicized Levantine people who today are known as Lebanese and who were in ancient times also known as Phoenicians and Caananites.
The Isaac/Ishmael dichotomy is another way to look at the fundamental differences between the Arabs and the Jews, but it's when we get to Sarah and Hagar that the full difference is expressed. Hagar is clearly ethnically, politically, socially, and culturally different from Sarah.
Those who take the Bible literally really don't have to go much beyond that to figure out the differences in the two groups. Those who view the Bible less literally might imagine the early rabbis who "edited" the ancient texts piecing this together because it made a lot of sense for the Hebrew and Aramaic speakers of the Mediterranean coast to have different origins than the Arabic speaking folks from the desert.
Either way, the differentiation is truly of Biblical proportions. However, the modern scientific evidence is telling us that the Palestinians are part of the Jewish/Levantine milieu and not that of the Arabs.
"Palestinian" Arabs are indistinguishable from "Egyptian" "Jordanian" "Saudi Arabian" "Kuwaiti" and "Iraqi" Arabs because all these titles are 20th century political constructs.
The Arabs who call themselves "Palestinians" have nothing to do with the ancient Philistines or Phoenicians.
The last guy up the rope ladder to the last American helicopter out of the embassy in Saigon was born to a family that had lived on the Mount of Olives since time immemorial.
They spoke Arabic and were Moslem. However, they had a family history demonstrating that they did not come from Jordan, Syria, Saudi, Iraq or any other place where "True Arabs" come from.
Their family ended up in a refugee camp as "Palestinian Refugees".
Now, please explain to me what the utility is in denying that man his own history?
How come his name isn't in all the American history books?
Their family ended up in a refugee camp as "Palestinian Refugees".
This story is pure BS. The Mount of Olives was under Jordanian control.
This relationship is well described in the Bible and supports the integrity of the ancient accounts, including God's promise to bring His people back. If the greater number of Palestinians come from elsewhere to this place, we really do have to ask if maybe there's a divine reason for that.
You can dispute the Bible if you wish. I won't stop you but don't come crying to me when one of the agnostic/atheist/argumentative curmudgeons here beats up on you for your beliefs supposedly grounded in "the Law". I'm not going to be listening.
BTW, things go on in this world that are not pre-cleared for your entertainment.
Didn't Jordanian control end in 1967?
The refugee camps were established in 1948. There were no new refugees created in 1967.
By 1967 their titles to their properties at Mount of Olives were about as useful as Confederate money.
You can play around, and look for holes, problems, etc., and accuse me of being a liar, but the man I'm referring to was a real human being and his family (which means mom, dad, sisters, brothers, cousins, etc.) ended up as refugees. The family owned property in Mount of Olives.
Couldn't be simpler than that.
Now, why is it so important to you that there couldn't possibly have been Palestinian residents of this area for many centuries?
You know how big those Palestinian families are too, right? Huge!
There were also Jewish families who lived in the Holy Land for centuries. somehow nobody ever mentions them. I have relatives in Jerusalem who lived in the Old City for centuries. I am sick of hearing the sob stories and the whining of Palestinians who all owned mansions and villas and wear the keys around their necks. If each and every one of them had as much land as they claim, Israel would have to be the size of Texas.
My relatives also got thrown out of their homes, not just once but many times.
