PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are spending the weekend at their Crawford ranch. Undoubtedly Barney and Beezie are with them, but no new photos have turned up on Yahoo News Photos. (Sigh.) British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be visiting the President at the White House on Tuesday. The meeting is intended to be preparatory to the G8 Summit to be held in Scotland next month. They are expected to talk about aid to Africa, as well as the status of things in Afghanistan and Iraq.
THE WEEK AHEAD: From White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's press gaggle yesterday.
Monday, the President will be going to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to make remarks at the opening of the general assembly for the Organization of American States. Then when he gets back to the White House, he'll make remarks on the South Lawn for Black Music Month. There will be a White House Black Music Month reception.
Tuesday, the President welcomes Prime Minister Blair back to the White House. Following their meeting, they will participate in a joint -- it's an afternoon meeting, they'll participate in a joint press availability. That's scheduled for the East Room at this point. And then they will have dinner after the joint press availability.
Wednesday, the President meets with Prime Minister Erdogan at the White House in the Oval Office, and then he will be making remarks on strengthening Social Security later in the day.
Thursday, GWB travels to Colombus, Ohio, where he will make remarks on the Patriot Act. Congress is considering legislation to reauthorize the Patriot Act right.
Friday, the President will go to McLean, Virginia, where he will tour the National Counterterrorism Center. And then he will meet with President Roh in the Oval Office later that day.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the Presidential Radio Address today.
America's economy is on the right track. Over the past two years, we've added more than 3.5 million new jobs. More Americans are working today than ever before. Home ownership is at an all time high. Small businesses are flourishing. Factory output is growing. And families are taking home more of what they earn.
These are hopeful signs for our economy, and we must work hard to sustain that prosperity. When members of Congress return next week, they need to take action on four key priorities for the American people. [The President then discussed each of the four points. OK thought it must be something like that, we can actually get American Idol though I am not certain it is the current series have never watched it myself.
You know me too well! (either Carrie or "Chloe" from 24--can't make up my mind ;)
Very true. Neither do television shows. But we won't go there.
We don't get Pop Idol over here -- well, maybe people with satellite TV might get it. The first Pop Idol went over like a lead balloon here when he was introduced to American audiences in season #2.
I'd like to find out why NordP is yielding before laying claim. First is first, even if a pic was posted. : )
If I do get the toaster, I'd like one of those snazzy chrome ones with a pic of Miss Beazley on it.
Carrie is more beautiful. The actress who plays "Chloe" is more interesting. So I guess it depends on what you'd want to use your "quiet" evening for, LOL!
Chloe!!!!! That's hilarious! She is such the nerd! Are you having withdrawals from 24 as bad as I am? I just hate it when the season ends--especially the way it did this time! If that show ever ends, I think I'll just give up TV!
LOL! Probably a good idea! I like to think all my favorite TV characters are perfect in every way!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JONNY!!
Yep!
OK I will hold off posting it until NordP returns and we find out why she does not want it I agree first is first
Yes it did! Thank you :-D
"Tuesday, the President welcomes Prime Minister Blair back to the White House. Following their meeting, they will participate in a joint -- it's an afternoon meeting, ..."
Wow, I thought; nothing like real honesty regarding high times at the White House! But, putting everything in context, that passage ended with:
"... they'll participate in a joint press availability."
No, not really. Cake and presents with my folks tomorrow--that's about it. I'm usually low-key about my birthdays, in spite of what you seen here, LOL :)
What is the difference between a press conference and a press availability?
Happy Birthday!
Sounds like my kind of birthday
You're most welcome.
