Dean hits GOP on 'honest living' - (Dr. Demonic baying at the moon again!)
WASHINGTON TIMES INSIDER.COM ^ | JUNE 3, 2005 | Stephen Dinan and Amy Fagan

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean yesterday said many Republicans don't make an "honest living" -- the sharpest barb in a campaign-style speech to a conference of liberal activists.

Speaking to the Campaign for America's Future, Mr. Dean called for easier rules for voting, saying it is difficult for working parents to make it to the polls on time and wait to vote.

"Well, Republicans, I guess, can do that, because a lot of them have never made an honest living in their lives," Mr. Dean said. "But for ordinary working people, who have to work eight hours a day, they have kids, they got to get home to those kids, the idea of making them stand for eight hours to cast their ballot for democracy is wrong."

The Democratic National Committee later defended the former Vermont governor's remarks as a comment on the state of the economy.

"Governor Dean was simply pointing out what everyone already knows: People are working harder for less money thanks to the Bush economy. Republicans clearly don't understand that," said DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney.

Mr. Dean's remarks stand in contrast to a report released Tuesday by Third Way, a centrist Democratic advocacy group, that said Democrats are facing a crisis among middle-class voters and found that Republicans -- at both the presidential and congressional levels -- have a commanding lead among white middle-class households.

Mr. Dean's comment was reminiscent of when Teresa Heinz Kerry, during the 2004 presidential campaign, questioned whether first lady Laura Bush had ever worked.

"I don't know that she's ever had a real job -- I mean, since she's been grown up," Mrs. Kerry said of the former school librarian.

Dean's Idea of making "an honest living" is cashing a government check.

Well, we know Teddy has been on the "public dole" his whole life

And Joe Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Jr., Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Patrick "Patches" Kennedy, etc., ad nauseum.

I'd love to have the good Doctor explain the sore feet, back pangs, occasional cuts and other physical ailments I'll suffer periodically after a day of that honest hard work

Amen! My child (now in late twenties) proudly tells her friends about how her Mom and Dad put her to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor of the office when she was little because we had to work straight through the night in order to grow our buisness and pay the bills. Believe me, this member of the 'younger generation' knows how hard her 'Republican parents' worked and is following in the same steps. Dean is an idiot.

Be careful what you wish for Dean because most of your voters will be too drunk, stoned or hungover on election day, due to it being a holiday, to bother standing in line.

Great point! His constituency will all be at the beach! They'll have to turn some lifeguard high-chairs into polling booths! LOL!

Dean is a national joke - Fox news did some excerpts from a man-in-the-street interview tonight, asking interviewees to identify pictures of various public figures...all those identifying Dean associated him with his psychotic scream from last year, with a few doing darn good imitations - what an appropriate leader for the 'rats.......

I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes to vote that I can remember. Of course, I tend to live in republican areas where we have responsible government that meets the needs of its people, for example by providing enough polling places and voting machines.

Why are so many democrat governments incapable of properly running elections? Why is it only in heavily democrat jurisdictions that the public democrat-run boards of election can't seem to provide adequate polling places?

I never had to take time off to vote. I just show up when the polls open at 7. Of course now I take time off because I work the polls. But that's different.

Think they have enough dimes yet to afford it?

I like "Dr Demonic"--but perhaps "Dr Demento" would be more appropriate.

"Why are so many democrat governments incapable of properly running elections?"

Excellent point! I'm originally from Georgia, and Atlanta was a joke on election day! THen again, Atlanta's a joke EVERY day...

"Don't be angry at Dean!
Don't you see Dean should have our support?
I'd love to see him stay as head of the democract for EVER!"

Yeah, I agree, but you can't blame someone for getting mad at what he actually says. That he says it is good, because it does nothing good for the Democrats, but what he actually says can be infuriating.

For example, a long time ago I remember him saying, "Republicans have declared war against their own children."

Now why in the world would anyone declare war against any children, let alone their own? What could be gained from that? The comment made no sense. I'm still scratching my head over what he said, and why.

Okay, okay, I'll lighten up. But he does make for good conversation pieces on FreeRepublic. To get irrational and angry would be to sink to his level, I guess.

I wrote a piece here on FR during the campaign where I hypothesized that the way to understand Dean is to realize that he is someone who HATES his father, i.e., he is a pure Freudian head-case. Substitute "my father" for "republicans" in Dean-speak, and it all becomes clear.

I could not agree more, and I think it's true of many Democrats. Anti-authority/Oedipus complexes are very unattractive on adolescents, but downright repugnant on fifty-somethings.

Btw, I could not help but notice how sensible and articulate all the hardworking folks on this thread are. I wish we could have more citizen legislators like these instead of the professional crooks who dominate politics.

"Btw, I could not help but notice how sensible and articulate all the hardworking folks on this thread are."

Very true. This is a bit off topic, but there's something else that I can't stand to hear: the pro-illegal immigration argument that "illegals do hard, dirty jobs that Americans aren't willing to do."

Putrid and sickening, and this thread has shown how grotesque and anti-American that left-winged statement is.

It'll never happen. Evil Republicans who never sunbathed a day in their lives will deny ordinary hardworking folks the right to vote on the beach.
