Israel uses sound technology for riot

The Israeli army has unveiled a new crowd-dispersal tactic, emitting painful bursts of sound at a special frequency to help break up a violent Palestinian demonstration, military officials and witnesses said.

Israeli military officials confirmed soldiers used a new "nonlethal" tactic in the West Bank village of Bilin, where hundreds of demonstrators rallied against Israel's separation barrier.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity under army regulations, said the weapon uses "voice frequencies" to disperse crowds. They said Israel developed the technology over the past four years, but had never used it in a live situation before Friday. No further details were immediately available.

An Associated Press photographer said a military vehicle arrived toward the end of the demonstration that lasted several hours and became violent at times.

Located about 500 metres from the demonstration, the vehicle emitted several bursts of sounds, about 1 minute in length each time. Although the sound was not loud, it caused people to cover their ears and grab their heads in discomfort.

About 400 people, including Palestinians and foreign and Israeli activists, participated in the demonstration, marching toward a site where Israel is building its West Bank separation barrier.

The crowd was prevented from reaching the site, and began rioting and throwing rocks at soldiers, the army said. One soldier was moderately wounded in the eye.

In addition to the sound machine, soldiers used other means to disperse the crowd, including clubs and stun grenades.

Israel has completed about one-third of the planned 680-km barrier, which it says is necessary to keep out suicide bombers from the West Bank. Palestinians say the barrier is a thinly veiled land grab because it dips into the West Bank in some areas.

It would be a nightmare to have a repeated and noisy "Macarena" played with this riot control device. It would be repeated in the brain for days.

The jihadists do that by themselves, hence the phrase "nazis in filthy nightshirts".

Although the sound was not loud, it caused people to cover their ears and grab their heads in discomfort.

So the Israelis played a Barry Manilow CD.

"This was researched by the "Myth Busters" Adam & Jamie on the Discovery Channel. Result?... myth busted!!!"

There was an Air Force turboprop fighter prototype (XF-84H) known as the "Thunderscreech." The propeller produced hypersonic frequencies that caused "acute gastric distress" to anyone standing near the aircraft.

Palestinians say the barrier is a thinly veiled land grab because it dips into the West Bank in some areas.

Why would Israel have to grab land it already won fair and square?

His sounds though could be used to end the war on terror by making terrorist ears burst, even down in their caves and tunnels.

Don't you mean the XF-84H) varient of the Thunderstreak?
Between 22 July 1955 and 9 October 1956, two XF-84H prototypes (S/N 51-17059 and 51-17060) made twelve test flights. Eleven of the twelve flights ended in emergency landings. Sounds produced by the aircraft's turboprop engine caused nausea and headaches among ground crews, earning the XF-84H the unofficial nickname "Thunderscreech." Though the XF-84H was the fastest single-engine propeller driven aircraft ever built, it never approached supersonic speed. Due to poor performance and high maintenance requirements, the XF-84H never became operational.

Another alternative for rodent control is the Sonic Pest Chaser. The device emits a high-frequency sound that drives rodents crazy but cannot be heard by humans or pets!

What about the sound frequency that causes loss of sphincter control? The "brown noise."

I think that's F-flat minor.

I predict there will be lawsuits, condemnations from the usual suspects like "mainstream" international organizations of Israelis using tortues that could "potentially protestors' hearing abilities".

LOL No kidding. I don't see any reason for them to complain; it's better than dispersing them with machine gun fire.
