Man with concealed-carry permit shoots gunman
By Kelli Wynn
Dayton Daily News
DAYTON | Two men carrying guns approached a 40-year-old man at Riverview Avenue and Catalpa Drive early Friday. Their victim bent over with outstretched hands.
Then things changed swiftly.
The targeted man pulled out a Glock 23 handgun he has a concealed-carry permit and fired several shots, hitting one of the gunmen, police said.
Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of West Riverview at about 12:45 a.m. on numerous calls about a shooting.
Police found the 40-year-old male victim at his Dayton residence. He told them that he was walking west on Riverview when he was approached by two males in dark clothing coming from Catalpa. One shoved the victim, the victim turned around and both men in dark clothes flashed handguns, police said.
The victim then "began to back away in a bent-over position with his hands outstretched," according to a police report. Then he pulled out a Glock 23, a .40-caliber handgun, striking one gunman several times, police said.
The two ran off, but police said they caught up with possible suspects at Good Samaritan Hospital.
The victim has both a Dayton Firearms Owner's Identification Card and Montgomery County Concealed Carry Card, police said.
Don't know perps size. I lost touch with Mike so can't ask him.
I do remember it was a gang of three black thugs. One of whom did not make it to trial. One had his trial after spending quite awhile in the hospital recovering. Third was not shot.
When will these guys learn that they are going to have to move to California, Illinois, Massachusetts or Washington D.C. to better manage risk.
What race? Take yer pick. If the perps weren't white, the libs will cry foul.
The point made to me was for the weight of a pistol they could carry 2 or 3 mags.
Your right about the size and weight, but my son is 6'3" and about 210. I once asked him that specific question and the response I got was, "I'm humping a 100 pound pack now I won't even notice.
My comment was harsh and over-the-top. Apologies.
SO....I have to ask, what if he didn't have a "permit"? Would he be considered a criminal for protecting himself?
If you need a permit, your just saying you need permission from the government to protect yourself.
Great point.
Accepted. It takes a true gentleman to apologize.
Don't you think that he called it in? How did they know where he lived and who he was if he didn't call it in?
If you're concerned for incroching fascism, why not get a CCW from a different state?
Florida will issue CCW for any state that they have reciprocity for. (Looking to do this next year.)
