Man with concealed-carry permit shoots gunman

Dayton Daily News
DAYTON | Two men carrying guns approached a 40-year-old man at Riverview Avenue and Catalpa Drive early Friday. Their victim bent over with outstretched hands.
Then things changed swiftly.
The targeted man pulled out a Glock 23 handgun he has a concealed-carry permit and fired several shots, hitting one of the gunmen, police said.
Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of West Riverview at about 12:45 a.m. on numerous calls about a shooting.
Police found the 40-year-old male victim at his Dayton residence. He told them that he was walking west on Riverview when he was approached by two males in dark clothing coming from Catalpa. One shoved the victim, the victim turned around and both men in dark clothes flashed handguns, police said.
The victim then "began to back away in a bent-over position with his hands outstretched," according to a police report. Then he pulled out a Glock 23, a .40-caliber handgun, striking one gunman several times, police said.
The two ran off, but police said they caught up with possible suspects at Good Samaritan Hospital.
The victim has both a Dayton Firearms Owner's Identification Card and Montgomery County Concealed Carry Card, police said.
If those studies compare .40 loaded to it's maximum level versus 10mm loaded to it's max, then the results would be valid.
If those studies compare .40 (which is a max-pressure round) to most commercial 10mm loadings (which are underpowered), they you are just comparing a .40 to......another .40.
What ever.
I don't care if the LEO's use blanks or square bullets.
The real life stats are what they are.
The 165 gr .40 may in fact be deadlier for various reasons than a 180gr 10mm.
Faster lighter bullets may cause more trauma and expand more.
The pistols are only backup.
I don't know that they're not, but what makes you so certain that they're black. Or...if you didn't mean to imply that they were black, what race did you mean?
Absolutely. In Texas, even if you shoot a guy in self-defense, you still have to let the cops know you did it. Even if it weren't compulsorary, it would be common sense. The more time went by, the harder it would be to sell your claim of self-defense.
Ok, you're crazy. Even if you're right, philosophically, you're not right with the law, and that can have negative consequences. I have a CCL, and if I shoot some would be mugger on the street tonight, my bases are covered. The guy that doesn't have the CCL, and shoots a mugger runs the risk of going to jail and/or prison, where he will have no means to protect himself.
You get past the rhetoric, you can see that I'm much safer with my permit than the yahoo without it. That guy, no matter how right he thinks he is, is risking his liberty and he might wind up in an environment where's he's sharpening his toothbrush for protection. No thanks.
Again, you might be right in spirit, you might be right in a dozen different ways, but if you don't win in court, you still go to jail. Common sense says it's better to heed the law and get the CCL than carry without one.
Wow, out of curiosity, how big was the guy that took three .45 slugs to the torso and lived?
You saw Death Wish too many times.
Absolutely right.
The law is unlawful! I undersrtandthat the left will put you in jail if you violate their unconstitutional laws but one can protest in writing and by writing ones elected representatives to change an unlawful law. No matter what the anti-Constitution lawyers and judges say.
As a small man myself, I totally resent your implication that any man who's not out dunking basketballs on the weekend is a homo. That was absolutely unnecessary.
I'm not arguing the merits of the law. I'm pointing out that chanting "The law is unlawful" while Bubba and his friends have fun with you isn't going to make it much easier to bear. In the end, you simply have to go with with what works in the really real world. In the really real world, you not only have to beat the thugs, but any potential case against you in court as well. Losing one is as bad as the other. The man that prepares for the first, but not the second is as much the idiot as the guy that prepares for neither.
I owned one of those for a while. With hi velocity handloads, it was not very comfortable to shoot for long periods of time.
As a concealed carry piece, I'd say it's an excellent choice mainly because it is very compact for the amount of knockdown power it has.
You're still skirting that most basic point I'm making. It's far wiser for me to comply with the law in Texas, and obtain a CLL than it is for me to stubbornly carry without one. It really is that simple.
