Freeper research wanted: Can we estimate Felt's FBI pension? Is he being abused by his daughter?
one man's opinion

Posted on 06/02/2005 11:18:04 AM PDT by ken5050

Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.

He probably gets close to $7 grand a month I doubt that he could live in grand style with that, not in California.

No, but I think there's more....Like an agreement between Felt and Woodward? for 30 years of silence (just like the statute of limitation). It's mutual blackmail. My best guess is that the darling little daughter found the agreement and decided to cash in. Wonder what "powers" her father has signed over to her. Wonder if he also received money from the media. Bet so!!

She would still get 55% of his pension.

I may be alone on this --- but does anyone else think it's a bit unseemly to try and extract a measure of revenge on a ninety year old guy for an event that took place more than a quarter century ago?

The DAUGHTER would get 55% of his pension?

How would that happen? Only a spouse can get that and only if he had signed to receive a percentage less than full pension for the years since his retirement.

I don't figure she married her father.

If he has designated her as his survivor.

Well, I am not trying to extract revenge. I am simply saying that this guy should not be treated as a hero, which is what a large chunk of the press is trying to do.

I also want to know if he really is Deep Throat, or simply a convenient person to name.

No pension I know of allows a surviving child to inherit a portion of the pension. Is this some federal benefit I don't know about? If that is right, and a child can receive over half of the pension for his/her lifetime, then we REALLY need to take a look at federal employee benefits.

I take back the 55% figure. If the age differential is greater than say five years then the survivor gets a lesser percentage. But if he has no spouse then he can designate a survivor if he had chosen to take a ten percent reduction in his pension over the years.

It's the final chapter. The end of the mystery. The vast majority of the people involved are now deceased. And since Felt was not a prominent public figure, he'll only get a brief footnote in the history books.

Again, the survivor benefit is applicable only if he has chosen to accept a reduction in his pension. Now this is only the old restirement scheme. The current scheme gives a small pension AND a social security payment. The social security payment ends with death. The personal account scheme proposed by the president is analogous to the present federal pension scheme.

Can that be done with a non-spouse?

Here's another possibility: what if he was NOT Deep Throat, but that the daughter and Woodward have entered into a plot to deflect attention from the real one?

Deflect what attention from who? Which real one? If someone had hard evidence against the "real one" and held it for 30 years, why would they come forward now?

And if someone had hard evidence against the "real one" what good would "deflecting attention" do?

If someone declines to admit something they are suspected of, and no one has hard evidence against them, you'd have nothing.

This is becoming humorous.

Supposed caregivers. How dare you people make judgement on this person you don't know anything about. She has taken care of her Father for 20 years. 20 YEARS.

I wasn't clear, was I? If Woodward fabricated Deep Throat he has to produce someone within the next 10 years. He had said he would reveal the identity when the guy died.

So, if there were NO Deep Throat, he would have to produce one. Hence the necessity of paying off someone who is senile and can't answer reporters' questions.

Just speculation, and probably not the truth. However, I find it interesting that it took the Post, Woodward, and Bernstein a couple of days to get their story straight. And even then there were contradictions, as detailed by James Rosen on Fox.

By the way, how did you wind up here? I notice you have only been here a few days. Speculation and trying out of ideas is what we do here. Sorry if you find it humorous, but sometimes we actually find things out. Dan Rather knows this. :-)

I didn't make a judgement pro or con about her. How could I, I don't know her. I just made a statement based on the facts. The fact is she has taken care of her Father for 20 years and that was what my "judgement" is based on. You, on the other hand have made a judgement, and accusation, based on nothing. Zero. Zip. Ya know, you people are so insane, so full of conspiracy and anger and bitterness that you don't see how small and petty you appear. But maybe you just are small and petty.
