Felt was not is a position to know anything about what was on the tapes or missing from the tapes at the time it was reported. At the time "Deep Throat" reported that there may be erasures on the tapes, the tapes had not been released by the White House to be reviewed by anyone, including the FBI. Remember, the "Executive Privilege" argument? So if they had not been released, how did the FBI know then?

Haig was in the White House at the time, and he wanted Nixon gone. Any questions?

Cheers!

I am so unimpressed by Felt. I have always despised Deep Throat anyway, whoever "he" was.

This was always one of the grandest modern political mysteries to me...revealing who the traitor big mouth was.

And now, if this mystery is solved and it was some guy named Felt, well...then how boring it is!

Interesting that this came out at this time. The dude who is considering running against Hillary in NY also has "Watergate" in his resume. Just tossing it around in my head for now.

Don't be surprised if "Deepthroat" has some data stored away for safekeeping.

I finally called husband at work and he guided me to the outlet box. It was a matter of the cat getting behind the desk and loosening the connection just enough to make the speaker inoperable.

All better now. Unfortunately, I turned on tv this morning and saw President Bush but could not hear. At the end I did turn on the tv in the other room so I could sort of hear. LOL

Should also add, if you go 5.1 Surround, I would recommend the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 soundcard. It's a low budget solution and does the trick. :)

Nice thing about this particular speaker/soundcard solution, you can tailor it to various "environments". When I watch DVD movies on my computer, I switch it to theater sound, and it really gives you a theater experience, popcorn is optional. LOL!!

Washington Post Confirms Felt Is 'Deep Throat'
Woodward, Bernstein and Bradlee Reveal Former FBI Official as Secret Watergate Source

By William Branigin and David Von Drehle
Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, May 31, 2005; 5:29 PM

The Washington Post today confirmed that W. Mark Felt, a former number-two official at the FBI, was "Deep Throat," the secretive source who provided information that helped unravel the Watergate scandal in the early 1970s and contributed to the resignation of president Richard M. Nixon.

The confirmation came from Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the two Washington Post reporters who broke the Watergate story, and their former top editor, Benjamin C. Bradlee. The three spoke after Felt's family and Vanity Fair magazine identified the 91-year-old Felt, now a retiree in California, as the long-anonymous source who provided crucial guidance for some of the newspaper's groundbreaking Watergate stories.

LOL!! That happend to my "center channel speaker" the other day, the sound didn't sound right and I looked behind the subwoofer speaker (where all the right and left speakers plug into) and the center channel speaker looked plugged but it was just barely. I secured the connection and all is better now! LOL

Joan Felt and her father W. Mark Felt wave to the media gathered in front of their home Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Santa Rosa, Calif. Felt claims he was "Deep Throat," the long-anonymous source who leaked secrets about President Nixon's Watergate coverup to The Washington Post, his family said Tuesday.

Woodward said Felt helped The Post at a time of tense relations between the White House and much of the FBI hierarchy. He said the Watergate break-in came shortly after the death of legendary FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, Felt's mentor, and that Felt and other bureau officials wanted to see an FBI veteran promoted to succeed Hoover.

Felt himself had hopes that he would be the next FBI director, but Nixon instead appointed an administration insider, assistant attorney general L. Patrick Gray, to the post.

So...it was childish, petty revenge.

Yes, thanks a lot Mr. Felt. You brought down a President who was skilled in foreign policy, which had the direct consequence of ushering Jimmy Carter into office.

The sound you're hearing is of one hand applauding.

Regards, Ivan

There's a bigger story in here someplace...this is just the rumble before the lightening strikes. There's a "revenge" to doing dirty business and I'm guessing Cox running against Hillary was "thunderboomer" No. 1 and this is No. 2.

No questions from me. Woodward and the WaPo now confirm it was in fact Felt.

That settles it for me. Your points about the tapes has already been debunked earlier up thread.

The fact that Felt has been at the top of the list of who could be Deep Throat since '74 tells me those that actually know the facts (ahem, that would not be you) knew he could fill the bill.

And now we know.
