It is obvious Sandy Shanks is an anxious contender for the John Espisito 'Suck Up to Saudi Arabia' award for journalistic fantasy. While he bemoans the atrocious history of Western dominance of the Muslim, particularly Arab, world, he conveniently ignores the over four centuries of Arab Muslim imperialist expansion throughout the Christian world and Europe prior to the first crusade in 1096. How he can evade the point that twice the Ottoman Empire knocked at the doors of Vienna, Austria totally escapes me and is only credible amongst those that don't have a clue about history...the very ones he berates. I believe Mr. Shanks needs to take some history lessons himself, or do the Western world a favor, and either keep his mouth shut or immigrate to Saudi Arabia. I'm sure he'll find a welcome audience there for revisionist lies.

And I'm more than sure I can say:

Some body should tell "these people" that, You will starve to death if you are not able to sell your oil!

And if there is no body to buy your oil, so please shut the f*** up and don't mess with the world affairs!

This should have come with a "Laxative" warning. As in the writer has been abusing laxatives and putting the results on paper.

Once a man's grievance is recognised, that can go a long way towards understanding.

After they slaughter my countrymen, I could not possibly give an asswipe with a Quran page what their grievances, real or imagined, are, nor do I accept justifications based on the losing side's perception of a centuries-old folly.

I do not want to understand a rabid dog; I want to put it down instantly.

I do not wish to understand the "feelings" of a cockroach, either; I want to step on it and poison every single last one of the species, without hard feelings, or anything personal- Just simply because it is an unpleasant job that needs to be done.

We must be allowing Al Jazeera to exist because it has some intelligence value; It deserves the compassion given to cockroaches, and the life of a Mayfly.

Thanks for the Ping!

Okay Mr. Shanks, where to even begin? I have never seen a worse or more inaccurately portrayed historical survey. Why not just take the short, honest route and admit first that you hate "the Jooooooooooos", and while you're at it, that you're not overly fond of the Christians either. So much so that you're willing to prevaricate, stretch the truth, skimp on important details, and outright lie!

"There are some who feel that the US goal in Iraq is the creation of a democracy.

Bush's goals or justification for war has changed over the years, and this new one was adopted after his February 2005 State of the Union address.

Once again, history becomes a casualty. Never in the history of mankind has democracy flourished at the point of a gun."

Rather than spout verbatim what her betters have taught Sandy to say, perhaps he/she should consider that last statement a bit more thoroughly.

I am constantly amazed people utter that sentiment and don't seem to realize how utterly wrong it is.

It's insanity, that's the only explanation I have.

And that's leaving out the blatant lie that Bush just came around to this as a reason for the invasion in Feb 05 (!).

Good god, do people have literally NO memory beyond the party line?

Like any good work of fiction it has a few elements of truth but it's basically a pack of lies.

Why do they hate us?

They hate us because we don't make our women dress in tents.

The fact remains that since the fall of the Arab empire in the 11 century, Arabs have not been in control of their own destiny.

They hate us because Arabs have been Losers for a millenia.

... the Iraqi resistance fighter is a soldier...

They hate us because they know that the Iraqi resistance fighter is a bully and a pansy, and as bullies and pansies they will remain losers for another millenia.

Santayana had it wrong. Those who remember the past (and revel in it's ancient insults) are condemned to repeat it. America was founded and populated largely by people who wanted to forget the past and concentrate on building a future. As an approach, the advantage is obvious. Just compare the US with the Arab world.

However, centuries of Western domination are kind of hard to forget and that will remove any holier-than-thou attitude American negotiators may have.

Whenever the terror apologists want to justify their atrocities, they reach deep into the pages of history to find [drum roll] The Crusades! However, the Third Crusade ended somewhere in the 13th Century.

You don't have to look nearly that far back to find evidence of Muslim atrocities. Sept. 11, 2001 will suffice.

Sandy needs to ask a more pertinent question.

The question should be: "Why don't they give a rat's behind?"

1. Germany.
2. Japan.

"Sandy Shanks" sounds like a good candidate for one of Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" segments.

Shanks is basically an anti semite it appears...one of those Ritter fans - a loser and ignorant about the history of islamic terror. An atrocious writer too.

The money angle should not overlooked either.

Cornpone's summary of this article is great! Well done, Cornpone!

Mr. Shanks may have a personal problem in that he clearly is not getting enough bran in his diet and his thinking mechanism is clogged!
