Vanity: What Movie Should I See Today?
Posted on 05/29/2005 8:00:20 AM PDT by Maceman
For reasons I won't go into here, I need to be out of my home for a few hours this afternoon. I went to Yahoo and looked at all the movies playing at the local multiplex theater (all the current titles).
NOthing really grabs me. Not a big Star Wars fan, forget that thing with Jane Fonda, ditto for the Interpreter.
I'd be interested in Hitchhiker's Guide because I loved the book, except that the reviews seem uniformly tepid.
Then there's Crash, which has interesting reviews but for some reason doesn't do it for me.
(BTW, I almost never go to the movies, except kid movies with my 6-year old.)
The last movie I saw in a theatre was Cellular, which surprisingly turned out to be a perfect afternoon thrillfest. Great escapist flick, if you haven't seen it.
So Freepers, what mainstream Hollywood movie should I see today?

As I mentioned, the whole point is that I need to be OUT OF MY HOUSE for a few hours. So staying home and watching anything is not an option.

if it's playing in your area, go see LAYER CAKE. Those brits do make good gangster/mob movies.
And dont see Star Whores: Revenge of the Shit. What a waste.

In trouble with the wife-unit, again.
Been there.
A little "alone time" is a good thing.

Saw 'Madagascar' last night and laughed so hard my chest hurt. If you liked the humor in Shrek, you'll like this one too.

Nothing new under the sun from Hollywierd. I'm going to the range for an hour or so this afternoon. Give it a shot (pun intended.) It's cathartic.

There's a sneak preview of Cinderella Man tonight. It's showing at one time only (around 7:30) here in B'ham AL, at 3 different theaters.
I've read great things about it from conservative columnists -- J Podhoretz and M Medved among others.

If you have a PPV service, for pete's sake, pop some popcorn, get out the kleenex and order "The Notebook" with Gena Rowlands and James Garner. Well worth it.

Go to Walmart and get "Mobster Movies" 2 DVDs for $5.50. 8 hours of good old black and white movies from the 30's and 40's. Sure beats whats out there, especially Jane Fonda.

I know you said (twice) you need to be out of your house (I've got a 3 and a 5 y.o. so I'm a stranger to the theater too), so this is just in the interests of B this TTT:
I agree with Thoughtomator, Hotel Rwanda is a tremendous movie. My only complaint is that Nick Nolte put too human a face on the U.N. (that's feining any humanity at all), but any movie that has you starting to well up with tears one moment and then screaming at the screen in a profanity and saliva laced tirade against the EU and UN, that's time well spent.
As long as were talking about videos, was anybody else as disappointed over Team America as I was? I mean, the play called "Lease", that was pretty funny, and so was "Everybody has AIDS", but I'd read about that nine months ago. The rest, I couldn't even begin to guess what was supposed to be funny, and I like some of South Park. I have to admit, I turned it off after 45 minutes or so, but I doubt seeing it to the end would have changed my opinion. But hey, maybe it's just me.
