Nashville -- Powerful state Sen. John Ford, now under house arrest as he awaits trial in a federal corruption case, has resigned, according to a letter read Saturday by the lieutenant governor.

"I plan to spend the rest of my time with my family clearing my name," Ford said in a letter read by Lt. Gov. John Wilder to the Senate.

Ford, a member of the Senate for more than 30 years, was arrested Thursday as part of a two-year FBI sting operation nicknamed "Tennessee Waltz."

But if 2006 is a heavily Democrat year nationally, why couldn't Ford win even if the margin is close?

The odds against that are astronomical, IMO. The party of hatred and no ideas, the party of corruption and obstruction is on its way out.

Anything having to do with Democrats is absent from the article, but Republicans are mentioned multiple times.

It figures.

Hey, Laz........I wanted to thank you for the articles you've been pinging me to, and let you know I have been looking at them (many are exellent), but have had a son get married, and a daughter to graduate in a matter of weeks, so haven't had much time.

I wouldn't mind if you keep pinging me to read them. I still don't agree that we are 'becoming the Soviet Union' (when anyone gets thrown in a gulag for having different opinions, I'll get worried ;o), but I do like to keep informed on the loss of rights.

Thanks again. (I'm not ignoring you! :o)

One mind at a time. That's how to show a populace what's going on.

We are not the Soviet Union, but I think nobody can honestly argue that we are going towards that model, not away from it.

Thanks again. (I'm not ignoring you! :o)

Thanks for taking the time to read them. If I see any more, and I will, I'll ping.

Don;t you have any Republicans down there?? Common this is Tennessee!! The party should send some down to take up residence and then get them into office.

We are the majority in the State Senate but we don't have organizational control whatsoever. We get 10% more of the vote in overall State House races and are still the minority due to grotesque gerrymandering. To make matters worse, Boss Hogg Naifeh has at least a dozen or so RINOs that he can count on to vote for him for Speaker, so even if we obtained an actual numerical majority (as in the Senate), Boss Hogg might STILL maintain his Speakership. It is so messed up down here, you have no idea.

"I plan to spend the rest of my time with my family clearing my name"

...and he will. ;-) TWO years is a LONG time to gather dirt on somebody. I have no doubt this man will spend the REST OF HIS TIME clearing his name.

It's amazing how the left and the MSM is so quiet about this.

I read the whole article and not a mention that he's a democrat, however, the republican senators mentioned in the story were immediately identified as such!!

More blatant proof that the AP is an organ of the democrat party.

AP Dictionary
Republican = Evil Person which must always be identified as such.
Democrat = Normal Patriotic American. Never Evil.

We're just like the blacks in the fifties (AP Standards)

The press always tries to make out that Republican is a dirty word. Republicans are the worse people on earth and Democrats are always right and never wrong.

Thus all good people are Democrats thus no need to mention that fact. All evil people are Republican and thus must always be identified as such.

--"The resignation effectively ended the legislative investigation of Ford. Ramsey said it was uncertain whether the Ethics Committee would investigate and consider charges against the other indicted lawmakers."--

This is the real reason for the resignation. Tennessee, like any truly corrupted state, is unconscionably generous to its politicians. The resignation effectively preserves a pension of several thousand dollars per month, along with lifetime medical care at no cost. This crook has managed to line his pockets while thumbing his nose at the public for decades, demonstrating his total mastery of political sleight of hand. He get to keep it, and we get to pay for it - his version of fairness.
