Anna Ayala's attorney said Thursday that the Las Vegas woman has been rattled by hate mail since her April arrest for allegedly planting a fingertip in a bowl of chili at a San Jose Wendy's.
The attorney, Rick Ehler, said the tone of the six pieces of mail sent to her home ranged from "white supremacist" rants to a writer saying: "I hope you get the death penalty."
"She's having a little bit of a hard time understanding the depth of the hatred," . . .

FREDERICK TAIT EHLER [#165526], 39, of San Jose was suspended for two years, stayed, placed on two years of probation with conditions, and was ordered to take the MPRE within one year. The order took effect April 2, 1997.
Ehler pleaded no contest to misdemeanor second degree burglary after he broke into a doctor's office and stole a prescription antidepressant. It was stipulated that the facts surrounding the case involved moral turpitude.
In mitigation, he has taken steps to address his drug problem and he cooperated with the bar's investigation.
Granted, I'm mightily annoyed by the fact that people like Ayala are driving up the price of the stuff we buy, but.... hate mail?
Colonel Sanders should make chili .it would be ..
Her greed affected alot of lives.
I don't blame them for being mad!
People like her don't realize that someone has to pay for her scams. And it's the American consumer.
Finger Lickin' Good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let us say that you worked at that Wendy's and lost your job because of this meathead. Would you be writing her love notes?
Would it be preferable if people just....gave her the finger?
Yeah, I reckon she is going to get some hate mail.
I could understand that, but I was thinking more of the people who had no connection whatsoever with the case (either as a principal or as someone caught in the fallout).
Let me try to explain it to you Mister Ehler. We're all tired of the slugs in our society (her) who hire scum bags (you) to rip off productive enterprise (Wendys) who have no choice but to pass off the cost to honest hard working citizens (us). The hate mail was directed to both of you. Does that clear it up for you?
Of course even one piece of hate mail can ruin your day.
You're forgettin the 9-fingered morons who are upset because they didn't think of it first.
