WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democrats said they hoped the Senate's vote to delay confirmation of John R. Bolton as U.N. ambassador would force the White House to release long-sought classified information about the embattled nominee, or perhaps to pick someone else for the job.

agreed, a recess appointment would be a good move, but he won't do it.
Welcome to FR newbie.
GOP Hopes Frist Grows a Pair
can anyone say, "fishing expedition". They just want to see if they can find any REAL reason, in the documents they have not reviewed, that he shouldn't be concerned. So far, "sharp elbows" is all they have. I wonder if Boxers tantrums on the floor are considered "sharp elbows"? Not to mention, Kennedy, Kerry, Schumer et al.
Dems Won't Back Off On Bolton (Liberals, repeat after me: Ambassador John Bolton.)
GOP, and me!!!! Never seen such a spineless group who comprise a so called, Majority, in my life.
How about Kerry first handing over his military records?
Besides, even if the requested documents are given to the Senate, the Rats will just come up with another excuse to stall.
ping!
This is nothing more than petty partisanship on the Dems part, and personal animus towards Bolton by Biden and Dodd, who persuaded their colleagues to go along with them. They are not going to get the papers they seek. They tried the same thing with Estrada's judicial nomination, asking for internal DoJ memos. Let them filibuster. The Pres can do a recess appointment.
There was some internal Justice Department documents that they KNEW would never be turned over.
That is what gets me so riled up. Every time the get away with one of their tricks, you can be sure they'll try it again.
And damn if it doesn't work again!
Fool me one, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!
How come we need to see documents on Bolton but we didn't need to see Traitor John's military records nor the memos that were on the dems Senate Judiciary Committee computer?
Dems allege preferential treatment
The State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development have turned over about 500 pages of documents to the committee, including e-mails, memos, telegrams and drafts of speeches, according to figures from the State Departments congressional affairs office. Various intelligence agencies have provided about 125 pages of documents.
This is all a scam.
All eight Democrats on the committee have indicated they plan to vote against Bolton, citing his past hostility to the United Nations or his conduct in his current job. Democrats are looking for evidence that Bolton twisted government intelligence to suit his conservative views or mistreated lower-level analysts who tried to raise red flags.
A recess appointment would be a good move, but he won't do it.
Why not?
In reality would it not simply take and act of Congress to send the United Nations packing? In that light, I think Bolton is one gigantic concession.

Novak: Castro Real Story of Bolton Controversy

The campaign against John R. Boltons nomination to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations is about far more than his reputedly abrasive personality behind the smears lies a pro-Castro agenda.
The criticism of Bolton by Democratic Sen. Christopher Dodd and his aide Janice OConnell is "based on taking issue with his accusations that Castro is building a biological warfare capability," writes columnist Robert D. Novak.
And the effectiveness of OConnell - the veteran Democratic staff expert on Western Hemisphere affairs in making life difficult for enemies of Fidel Castro is "legendary, according to Novak.
"She was largely responsible for blocking confirmation of Bushs 2001 nomination of [Otto] Reich as assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs."
The anti-Bolton campaign suffered a setback when former CIA deputy director of intelligence Jamie Miscik appeared at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing into the nomination and backed away from testifying that harassment from Bolton had "damaged" National Intelligence Officer Fulton Armstrong.
Otto Reich also testified. And Novak writes: "Whatever damage Bolton did to Armstrong professionally could not even compare with Reich testifying that the analysts work was considered substandard throughout the national security bureaucracy.
"That fits complaints I have heard from Reagan administration officials about Armstrongs left-wing bias on Western Hemisphere questions in general, but particularly on Cuba.
"Cuba is the them that runs through the ordeal of John Bolton."
Even the Washington Post has acknowledged that the campaign against Boltons nomination is sputtering.
The paper says that while the investigation of Boltons performance has turned up numerous examples of "fierce policy disputes" between Bolton and lower-level officials, "no additional direct evidence of abusive behavior toward subordinates has emerged."
