A maddening week for the majority leader

NEWS ANALYSIS

WASHINGTON - When Senate Democrats stopped John Bolton’s nomination as U.N. envoy Thursday, it was, for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, the horrid end to a nightmarish week. President Bush could use his recess appointment power in the next ten days to install Bolton as interim U.N. ambassador until the end of 2006.

"Have you actually been paying attention?"

yes i have. they are requesting more than just the names but you're missing the bigger picture.

every day that Bolton is delayed he looses credibility, its that simple. every day it drags out people will question more and more their support for him and IF he gets to the UN now he may not be taken that seriously, the world of the UN is watching this and will know that he hardly has support from his own country men (the senate)

its in our best interest to move this along quick, the whitehouse allowing the dems to drag this out with this document request ploy is a stupid move.

every day that Bolton is delayed he looses credibility, its that simple.

Two simple questions:

1) Why do you think his credibility is diminished?

2) Are you for the Bolton nomination?

he did with a judicial nominee i think.

with the UN ambasador i think there would be too much screaming about it and that hurts an ambasador's credibility plus i think it is only good until the end of the year. i don't know the specifics.

Pretty simple: what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I hope the Democrats are prepared for the same grilling of their nominees when the time comes.

Right like that has happened before. Did Kerry get prosecuted for outing that guy? Nope!

Place your bets folks. Will said names be outed in 12hrs, 24hrs, or 36hrs? I'm putting $100 on 12hrs. Any takers? Double bonus points if you guess the first paper. NYT or Newsweak?

That is absolutely beautiful!!!!

"1) Why do you think his credibility is diminished?"

its just a matter of public opinion and media portrayal. he has become an embattled nominee, painted as a hot headed control freak, abuser of his power and of spying on other americans. these don't need to be proven facts, just allegations that get out there in the press, you think our media is liberal check out the rest of the world. so IF he gets to the UN, what do you think the people there will think of him knowing that his support here in the US was shaky?

"2) Are you for the Bolton nomination?"

i support his nomination, specifically because i feel he'll take a tough stance and do some reform, but i feel this drag out confirmation will hinder him in the UN now but i still lwant to see him get through. just wish the whitehouse did a better job at this.

someone earlier said the "hurt credibility" issue is something the DUers are talking about and its true, this is their plan and they are executing it.

DU? Democrat Underground Septic System. The document situation on Bolton is easy to solve for the Democrats.
Call CBS, find Dan Rather and Mary Mapes and tell them the documentation is needed to stop the vote. They seem to have no problem making these things up. The NY Times and a few other will set it up.

Of course after he is confirmed, the media spot light goes away. He just becomes the biggest stick in the UN; he speaks for the US. Other countries have two choices: Pay attention to what he says (like you life depended on it), or ignore and ridicule him.

Care to guess how wide the collective backside of the UN will become after a hotheaded control freak (instead of a pinky tipping tea-totaler) finishes with them if they opt for option 2?

Really, it does not matter when he gets in, as long as he gets in.

Whoever came up with this political tactic is a genius. I wonder if Rove is behind this move. It's a really good one. Now let's see how Biden and Dodd try to get around this. Hahahahaha.

if he gets in i still think he'll have a rough start but will be able to pull things together.

the longer this plays out though, the more senators may turn tail and change their vote, the whitehouse better speed this up.

He speaks for the president. That is why the PRESIDENT appoints him. What a bunch of liberal degenerates in the senate think of him will matter little to the UN lackeys under bolton's heel after he is appointed. Actually, they will probably be thinking, "Why did teddy let us down"?

dude i just signed up, but im def not that other person - i dont even know who that is, and im utterly serious. you guys dont take opposing opinion to well. Obviously, Dodd and Biden want something specific, whatever they are getting at, give them whatever so that way they cant complain that they dont have it. Just appease the rats so that they dont have any excuses not to call the vote. I'm sure in the end Lieb and others like him will vote with us on confirmation, bolton will whisk by

I don't think the Dems care that much about Bolton, this is all about scoring a victory. The GOP need to maintain it's composure because the Dems are going to use every trick in the book, they're going for the nuts.
