I wonder if the rules on this forum are applied equally? Several weeks ago I was denied posting privileges because I jokingly advocated a "plan b" in fighting the so far failed war on illegal immigration. My "plan b" was to have border guards retreat to within 200 yards of the border and while fitted with night vision goggles simply drop any illegals attempting to gain access to America.
Now frankly I am not concerned with the fact I was denied posting privileges for a day(reason given was "advocating violence")but I wonder if the folks who post pictures of exploding nukes over text that calls for turning the middle east, or N Korea into a glowing heap of slag. were also denied the ability to post. I did a cursory check and found the names of the posters associated with the nuke threats posting regularly after the aforementioned posts appeared.
Is it possible that some are more equal then others here? I have been referred to as a "newbie" as if that somehow makes what I say less credible then someone here a longer period of time. I believe opinions are opinions and the length of forum membership does not serve to make ones credibility stronger.
It does seem that there is a "good old boy's" network operating here and the old timers are given more leeway as far as the rules then are the newer arrivals. While I have been a FR member for only 8 months I have been an avid political forum debator for 8 or 9 years on places such as the NYT, WP, LAT and others.
There was another incident in which I was accused of a personal attack although I was merely responding to an attack on myself. I never used profanity and merely responded in kind to another whose main complaint was that I was wrong in criticizing the post of another person because that person was a 5 year member. I was also told I didn't know what I was talking about. This resulted in a few back and forth retorts which I frankly found amusing and in no way took as an insult.
I thoroughly enjoy verbal jousting and never shrink from a confrontation. It appears that others see fit to run to the moderator at the first sign of getting back what it is they dish out. It is at that time that I believe the good old boys network comes into play.
If any of you would like to see the posts that caused this simply ask and I will happily post them.
I just posted when I would hit the abuse button. I'm sure there are many others doing the same. Am I supposed to then go say "Abuse, abuse, abuse"?
It is just my opinion and can be totally ignored by the mods. Don't see a need to publicly confront and incite the thread as an attack.
I would not mind sending a private freepmail - but again, think how it is taken. It would be like telling someone they needed a deodorant.
It is better for it to be handled by the mods using the guidelines they are given for action. It is then taken as a matter of maintaining the integrity of the site rather than a personal poster on poster verbal battle.
Yeppers. That's the one with the genuine brass bezel. They went to cheap plastic bezels after that first lot and although they work OK they don't turn you finger green. The mods'll cut you slack if you have a green finger...
Good point and I agree, and due to favoritism, their screen name known. jmo
It is a pride thing. We are better than that and who says Jim has to work his heart out to allow us to cuss, post obscene sexual comments on the internet?
Also why would any contribute to a site of trash?
Well, no, I don't think people should come on the site and say "#$*% you, you #$(#%ing M#$&#%er". I agree if you hit the button on these types of posts. Just hopefully not becauseyou simply disagree with someone.
And remember, while Jim Rob has a great idea ... it is THE USERS that make a forum. Without people posting, FR is a webpage. A webpage like 1,000,000,000 other webpages.
What makes FR great is not it's URL, but the people who post, and PAY FOR the servers. After all, it's not really a perosnal endeavor, but a company (and LLC to be exact). A personal endeavor is called a blog.
99.999% of the content on Free Republic is posted not by Jim Robinson, but by everyone else. And people come to it for the content ... of which "We" all provide for free - or sometimes even pay to provide.
So, when you become very popular, your credibility is boosted, and you have a website that is very popular almost solely because of the content provided by people other than yourself, you have to show some respect to the people who got you there. And in the end, that is the users.
We've all seen thigns become heavyhanded (Prodigy who?), and then all you have left are zealots that are all of the same opinion.
And absolutely nobody is going to read that.
So while big props go to Jim Robinson, even bigger props go to the thousands of people (kooks and otherwise) who give me my daily list of breaking news.
Let's not forget who got us here. You did, and everyone else who has posted in this thread.
Jump in!! Let me just get this baby up to 88mph and.......................................Hey McFly, you about done with my homework... :)
LOL. What about the definitions of each category?
ROFLOL! Just as long as that does not apply to me and you are not saying that the Republican Party is French.
I may be wrong, but I think weather we sign them or not, the mods can see who hits abuse.
Same with adding keywords.
:)
No the rules are not fair. You're right on the bottom of the totem pole just above me.
FWIW, early on in my FReeping I had a vanity pulled by Mr. JimRob himself and I didn't post another one whining about it. I private messaged him with my righteous indignation and he told me "the way things really are".
LOL.
Fraid it also means that Republicans cannot stand to actually fight a battle - prefer elitist sounding reasons that a battle is inappropriate.
HA!! Very good!
LOL
What better way to start a long holiday weekend than by reading absolute drivel!
Least you had a warning.
nope - no appreciation here.
I musta gotten the ladies version of the kit. Those sponges work great on sinks though.
You are right and they are what we read to see. We don't come here to read ZDSXXXD, LLISHDNL, sexual activity jokes, homo activity jokes and general bathroom/gym talk.
If they want to post that stuff - just contact the mods if the comment is removed and discuss with them. The site administrators will make the decision based on what Jim wishes.
This is Jim Robinson's site and Jim has no "obligation" to treat anyone "failrly".
Thanks, Jim, for the job you guys and gals do.
