Are we all equal on FR?

Posted on 05/27/2005 8:31:06 AM PDT by JoeV1

I wonder if the rules on this forum are applied equally? Several weeks ago I was denied posting privileges because I jokingly advocated a "plan b" in fighting the so far failed war on illegal immigration. My "plan b" was to have border guards retreat to within 200 yards of the border and while fitted with night vision goggles simply drop any illegals attempting to gain access to America.

Now frankly I am not concerned with the fact I was denied posting privileges for a day(reason given was "advocating violence")but I wonder if the folks who post pictures of exploding nukes over text that calls for turning the middle east, or N Korea into a glowing heap of slag. were also denied the ability to post. I did a cursory check and found the names of the posters associated with the nuke threats posting regularly after the aforementioned posts appeared.

Is it possible that some are more equal then others here? I have been referred to as a "newbie" as if that somehow makes what I say less credible then someone here a longer period of time. I believe opinions are opinions and the length of forum membership does not serve to make ones credibility stronger.

It does seem that there is a "good old boy's" network operating here and the old timers are given more leeway as far as the rules then are the newer arrivals. While I have been a FR member for only 8 months I have been an avid political forum debator for 8 or 9 years on places such as the NYT, WP, LAT and others.

There was another incident in which I was accused of a personal attack although I was merely responding to an attack on myself. I never used profanity and merely responded in kind to another whose main complaint was that I was wrong in criticizing the post of another person because that person was a 5 year member. I was also told I didn't know what I was talking about. This resulted in a few back and forth retorts which I frankly found amusing and in no way took as an insult.

I thoroughly enjoy verbal jousting and never shrink from a confrontation. It appears that others see fit to run to the moderator at the first sign of getting back what it is they dish out. It is at that time that I believe the good old boys network comes into play.

If any of you would like to see the posts that caused this simply ask and I will happily post them.

Look at the Admin Moderator's FReeper page, it explains the origin of that term. Cheers!

It wouldn't take long to find out who the real whiner's are around here.

The same result could be had by simply removing the option to not " Sign my name to this complaint" as is now available on abuse reports.
All abuse reports should be signed.

Why? Because it reflects badly on all of the posters and the site. Sorry if it limits the posting needs of some. Mods don't have to listen to me, but I will flag them.

Doesn't that kind of make you a "whiner"?

"Mods, protect me from the bad words that I disagre with".

I've always kind of associated that with the left (and prodigy).

"Welcome to the major leagues."

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm in awe of the intellect on the site. Like your "Welcome to the major leagues." quote. Are you the same one that originally said this about 40 years ago?

Just kidding.

They sure are quick to jump on you, aren't they Joe? I've read many of your posts and find your perspective both refreshing and thought provoking. It's good to have one's way of thinking challenged on occasion, to do an 'integrity check' every so often.

(I hope 'they' haven't already voted you off the island because of this thread!)

Independent thinkers are not appreciated anywhere in life. Become a sheeple and you'll never have any difficulties on FR.

"The point is well taken that sarcasm, playfulness and anger are often confused unless witnessed first hand."

True enough.

"This is obvious by the tone of the responses to my original post in the thread."

Also true enough, but you have to realize that the responses that you recieved early on are typical since most people post something like you did, then run like wussies.

You hung in and continued to respond, which is why the overall tone of responses has changed. Show spunk without getting vulgar or stupid, we'll continue to talk to to you, in hopes that you'll apply yourself differntly in the non-vanity posts in the future.

You are an enigma, I'll say that for you.

Good points - maybe I worry excessively.

It would really be great if powerful people did checkout FR. IMO how easier to get an idea of the countrywide opinion of issues?

Of course, that assumes they want to know. Anyway - it is a lot more realistic than a poll.

Perhaps, but remember, people don't make laws, and neither do "lawmakers". Special interests and lobbyists make laws.

You really think GWB think most republicans want amnesty?

I would worry more if anyone cared what the public thought. But unless it's an election year, they don't ... and even then, they just worry about what "the independents" thinks because we all know how the party line "I won't throw my vote away" folks are going to vote.

Whiner or not - at least I do not post a vanity to complain as many of the anti-regulation of posters do.

It is a pride thing. We are better than that and who says Jim has to work his heart out to allow us to cuss, post obscene sexual comments on the internet?

Also why would any contribute to a site of trash?

Why? So you can attack them with freep mail?

LOL

Hardly! Very easy to post and or pass on freepmail.

If you believe in something strong enough to hit the abuse button, you shouldn't be ashamed for others to know you did it. :)

The Republican Party is the France of politics"? What the heck is that supposed to mean?

It means that Republicans produce wonderful wines, don't bathe often enough, and are rude when employed as waiters.

LOL .... Poor Laz HAS been known to get the occasional 'time out' too.

Usually, it goes like this: The Moderator tells me to cool it, and I do, but he or see sees a post I posted before the warning, and I'm suspended.

Disclaimer: I have tested the Mod's once or twice -- they warned me and I ignored it.
