Are we all equal on FR?

Posted on 05/27/2005 8:31:06 AM PDT by JoeV1

I wonder if the rules on this forum are applied equally? Several weeks ago I was denied posting privileges because I jokingly advocated a "plan b" in fighting the so far failed war on illegal immigration. My "plan b" was to have border guards retreat to within 200 yards of the border and while fitted with night vision goggles simply drop any illegals attempting to gain access to America.

Now frankly I am not concerned with the fact I was denied posting privileges for a day(reason given was "advocating violence")but I wonder if the folks who post pictures of exploding nukes over text that calls for turning the middle east, or N Korea into a glowing heap of slag. were also denied the ability to post. I did a cursory check and found the names of the posters associated with the nuke threats posting regularly after the aforementioned posts appeared.

Is it possible that some are more equal then others here? I have been referred to as a "newbie" as if that somehow makes what I say less credible then someone here a longer period of time. I believe opinions are opinions and the length of forum membership does not serve to make ones credibility stronger.

It does seem that there is a "good old boy's" network operating here and the old timers are given more leeway as far as the rules then are the newer arrivals. While I have been a FR member for only 8 months I have been an avid political forum debator for 8 or 9 years on places such as the NYT, WP, LAT and others.

There was another incident in which I was accused of a personal attack although I was merely responding to an attack on myself. I never used profanity and merely responded in kind to another whose main complaint was that I was wrong in criticizing the post of another person because that person was a 5 year member. I was also told I didn't know what I was talking about. This resulted in a few back and forth retorts which I frankly found amusing and in no way took as an insult.

I thoroughly enjoy verbal jousting and never shrink from a confrontation. It appears that others see fit to run to the moderator at the first sign of getting back what it is they dish out. It is at that time that I believe the good old boys network comes into play.

If any of you would like to see the posts that caused this simply ask and I will happily post them.

It's a forum, folks, it's for fun, and perhaps those of you here who believe the world exists to see your words ought to look into yourselves to try and discover what shortcomings and personal deficiencies exist within your lives that bring you to this conclusion.

Hail the mighty freeper for he can do no wrong. He is all seeing and all powerful. I'll give some of you one thing, you are a source of amusement but I wonder who much trouble it is to keep that halo shined?

Joe, either blast us as a good LPer would or continue your holier-than-thou innocent angel routine. But blending the two approaches just doesn't work.

You might wish to take notice that we are at "Free Republic" and not "Free Democracy"

And so, to answer your question, yes there are some that are more "equal" on FreeRepublic.

Thank you for your reasoned and adult response.

Incorrigible, see that it doesn't happen again.

Personally, I'd dig giant trenches filled with petrol, wait till they stumble into them at night, then set them on fire.

But that's just me.

I agree that dropping illegals is poor form.

My preference is to fill the Rio Grande with piranhas. Burning petrol is such a waste of resources for my SUV.

But then... That's just me.

"We pull posts that actively call for genocide against Muslims."

Nah, not consistently. I've seen posts calling for making the entire Middle East a sea of glass, and other such comments.

It could be that this particular comment was viewed as too feasible' or too 'personal' by the Admin Moderators or something, and that may be why it was pulled.

Think about this then: I was at a seminar where a new statute was being discussed. Suddenly a young attorney stood up and said, "Why, it's just not . . . fair."
And the room got very quiet.

No, we are not all treated equally on FR. Click on my screen name for more details.

Hmmm...that's unfortunate. Is that the last word on all of it, or are you still "in talks"?

Told 'em I wouldn't buy their rag to line my bird cage. They asked "why?" so I said, "well, I like my bird."

The real question for the moderator is....

How much Dirt can a DirtBoy post if a DirtBoy just posts Dirt?

you JUST ASKED for a heap of "Flaming"...

Joe had a comment to make just like there are suggestion boxes out there. We can agree or disagree but flaming JoeV1 is a bit childlike don't ya think? By the way I didn't flame him (#78) nor did some others. However, I did notice some FReepers instantly contacted the Admin Moderator..go figure. Little hypocritical I would say. ;)

Now off to be productive
Nice vanity thread.

The "f" word? Generally when that is used it cheapens the opinions of all as they appear to be merely those unable to think of anything to say other than the old standard f word.

It also colors the opinions of visitors as to who we are. Cheap ignorant ranters or grassroots people working their hearts out for conservative principles.

I frankly don't want to have to wade through someone's trash language to get to the meat of the site.

That is without a doubt the best Zot I have seen to date. It is artistically beautiful and combines the two most popular zot symbols, the cat and the ball of fire.

In addition there is a certain charm in the kitten motif.

two snaps.

By the way I agree with the poster's premise but he gave an awful example from personal experience.
