Where Girls Marry Rapists for Honor - (...just when you think you've heard it all, there's THIS!)

Rojda was 13 when she was raped two years ago by a neighbor in this hardscrabble Kurdish province. In order to "cleanse" her honor, she was forced to marry her attacker in an unofficial Islamic-style ceremony. He later was convicted of raping a 7-year-old boy and has been imprisoned.

But Rojda's troubles were far from over, according to an account of her ordeal provided by her family and attorneys. She allegedly was raped again in March by her father-in-law, who she said demanded she prostitute herself to earn her keep. When Rojda refused, the relatives and attorneys charge, a group of men held her down and sliced off her nose.

Police raided their home after being tipped off by neighbors, who heard her cries. The men were briefly detained, then set free — though they have since been rearrested.

Rojda's story is not unusual: Human rights groups and Turkish officials say violence against women is widespread in Turkey, though statistics are hard to come by because so many attacks go unreported. They blame the violence on poverty, a lack of education and the patriarchal structure prevalent in much of Turkish society.

Judaism pre-dates Islam. If you wanna see stonings, forcing rape victims to marry their rapists, honor killings, mass murder for God, etc...start in Genesis.

How can we "remove" a billion 7th century people "from the face of the earth??"

Global warming ought to do it. Keep driving those SUV's. In fact, go out and buy another one and help the economy, too. If that doesn't work, try another tsunami.

Uh...our society.

Anyone that compares circumcision to female genital mutilation as if they are the same thing or even remotely close needs to educate themselves.

Not at all. When a Christian acts in such a manner, it is in spite of biblical scriptures. When a Muslim acts in such a manner, it is because of Islamic scriptures.

Apples and Oranges. There is no comparison at all.

Have you ever heard of a Christian honor killing being done by a westerner, living in a western country? If Christianity was the total cure, there should be no difference in percentages of Christians doing it, no matter where they lived.

Not sure what you're getting at. Bottom line is there are far far fewer Christian honor killings. Christian Arabs are the only Christians to do them, but nothing like the numbers of Muhammadans. So I blame the influence of Islam and the culture it spawns

No doubt, FGM is more serious as far as physical damage goes, but don't try to tell me that the whole...."God told me to do it," or "But everyone I know does it," or my favorite, "I don't want my son to look different in the locker room," doesn't make the practice/ritual comparable. LOL

I believe his point is that it is Western society that has changed the way people practice religion. If you were a christian living in a non-Western society, you probably wouldn't hold the same ideals.

I've met christian men from Africa that refused to speak to me or sit next to me because I was a married woman. I was a christian at the time and my husband was there with me, but their culture is different.

I'll never forget one mentioning that he was looking for a wife and basically asking where he could find a good christian woman to marry. He wasn't speaking with the idea of dating her and getting to know her...but he was interested in an "arrangement."

All I could think of was that he was in for a real suprise!

Some people might make comparisons as far as cause but effect is hardly comparable.

They sure are good at assigning blame in that part of the world. Has anyone in that region EVER accepted responsibility for ANYTHING?

Making all of these people Christians is not going to automatically cure them of their cultural backwards beliefs.

...

Yes, [honor killings are] part of their religion. What you stated earlier was that it was *created* in the Koran when it wasn't. The Koran borrowed it from the culture & made it part of the religion.

Logical then to conclude that Christianity would help slow the abhorrent practice of honor killings, by removing it from their religion, right?

The culture was key to the creation of the religion. Mo combined a whole bunch of different religions that were present in the area that he lived to justify everything his culture told him was the correct way to live. Christian Arabs will practice honor killings, because Christianity has not moved the ones that do them away from the cultural belief in them.

If you think Islam is the only thing that "normalizes" honor killing, western born Muslims should be doing them in similar percentages as middle easterners & as far as I know, the numbers are just not there. Instead, you'll find most, if not all cases of honor killing done in western countries being done by people imported from some backward country.

I'd have to think so, but I don't know how strongly it is preached against by some of the versions of Christianity that are not uncommon to that area. Breaking through the paternalism that is the basis of the origins of the practice would be pretty tough to crack through. The culture will try to hold on to it, because being forced to give it up would be seen as an attack on the family structure that people have lived with for many, many generations.

No, but perhaps misinterpreted. I never took that verse to imply that I should beat my children.

I don't take that verse "literally". I believe it means to lead and guide your children, and to discipline when needed. Discipline could take many forms. I believe God also wants us to reward our children for good behavior. References to the "rod" are found primarily in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Christ preaches compassion, love, and understanding, as does Paul.

Besides, bible was written by man. God gave us conscience. Personally, that is what leads me -- not some preacher/priest.

We all know right from wrong.

"They must be defeated, once and for all, using ANY means necessary. If they are allowed to continue to embark on worldwide violence, they will go stronger and more dangerous. And anything they say or promise must be taken with a grain of sand from the desert that surrounds them. Nothing they say or promise or agree to can be believed, and we must deal with them as we deal with a real clear and present enemy of our society, because that is what they represent to all of us."

I'm sorry to be so late in replying to your superb response. I agree with all that you say. What is worrying me immensely is the alliance which surely was formed long before 9/11 (and became stronger thereafter), between liberals & socialists in this country, aided by the liberal media, and the islamists who are already here, preparing for that "great day" when they will replace the United States of America with the Islamic States of America.

....and make no mistake. That is why they are here, and that is their agenda. Nevermind the "moderates." The radicals have them in a box.

Thank you for your superb thoughts.

Do you both call for the deaths/elimination of 1.2 billion people and consider yourselves christians at the same time? Or people of any religious faith?

Unbelieveable!

Is this one of the billion you'd like us to kill?
