Senator Dewine's son is running against Tom Brinkman Jr. in the republican primary this June 14th. Need I say more?
Tom Brinkman Jr. Is running in a special election June 14th in Ohio's 2nd district against Pat Dewine (Rino Senator Dewine's son). District two is a 'safe' republican district, Pat DeWine is a virulent liberal running as a republican, whereas Brinkman is a solid conservative. Lets send a message to Dewine that we don't approve of his actions in the senate regarding judicial comromises, and limp wristed liberalism at every turn.
We have a rare opportunity to show Dewine and the rest of the rino's what we think of them in less than a month. June 14th we need to destroy Senator Dewine's son Pat Dewine by voting for Tom Brinkman Jr. in the republican primary. Pat Dewine needs to be defeated june 14th so get the word out!
I check Mr. Chabot's votes online and almost every single times he votes in Congress it's exacly how I would have voted. He's a Conservative's treasure for sure.
Perhaps I need to make my point better. I am not a big death penalty advocate myself. My amusement is at freepers who want to declare Tom Brinkman "the conservative in the race" based on some supposed litmus test of issues but want to conveniently leave out this issue where he would differ from most conservative's position. Leadership is not about knee-jerk acceptance of postions. I will hand it to Tom that he is his own man. A person can, however, be true to themselves without being abrasive, divisive, and totally lacking of pragmatism.
Furthermore, when a candidate in this race breaks away from conservative orthodoxy, or the Republican platform, on an issue or two, there is usually a right-leaning philosophical justification for it. For example, Brinkman is oppposed to the death penalty on the grounds of defending all life. One of the lesser candidates wants to pull out of Iraq ASAP on libertarian grounds.
The Second Congressional District is a Conservative Disneyland. Some of you Southerners and Westerners are probably used to having races where everyone tries to "out-Conservative" each other and claim to be a direct intellectual descendant of Ronald Reagan. This is not the way things usually go in Ohio, though.
You make some good points. I am one district away (3) and this race is extremely interesting. Needless to say, I will be supporting ABD, Anyone But Dewine.
Who does Portman favor as his replacement? Or is he not allowed to say (other than, "whoever wins the GOP primary")?
As far as I know, Portman has not endorsed. If he did, I think that would be hard to miss around here.
While both are solid social conservatives, there is a difference between Brinkman and Schmidt.
In 2003, while both were members of the Ohio House of Representatives, they voted on the state budget which included a 20% increase in the state sales tax.
Brinkman voted no. Schmidt voted yes.
This was done after the 2002 election when Republicans campaigned around this state like Ronald Reagan and governed like, well, Bob Taft.
Many people in this state are fed up with with the out of control spending and taxation in this state. After we were told that the tax increase was only going to be "temporary," we find out that only half of it will be "temporary" and the other half will be PERMANENT.
I think it is safe to say many Conservatives, Republicans, and Ohioans would agree that the legislators who voted for the tax increase don't deserve a "promotion."
Senator DeWine's son should be evaluated on his merits alone. Grow up.
Agreed.
Schmidt voted to raise Ohio's Sales Tax by 20%. Brinkman voted against it.
Schmidt voted to raise Ohio's Gas Tax by 6 cents per gallon. Brinkman voted against it.
Schmidt sponsored legislation to allow Cincinnati and Hamilton County to raise its hotel tax. Brinkman voted against it.
Tell me how exactly this makes Schmidt a small government conservative.
Don't fall for Schmidt's push poll. That poll was bought and paid for by her. In that poll, she painted herself in a positive light. Then she read off a list of negatives about DeWhine, Brinkman, and Schmidt.
Then they asked everyone who they're voting for. That's the only way a poll could show Schmidt ahead. Every other poll taken has shown Schmidt far behind.
Does anybody know if there will be a runoff? if so it doesn't matter who we vote for as long as it is not dewine.
No there are no runoffs.
Wow...did I stumble onto the liberal section of FR? I thought we believed in *personal* responsibility - not blaming B for the actions of A.
So you're going to *punish* one person for someone else's mistakes? I thought that's how liberals did things.
Conservatives judge each person on the content of their character, not on what their father did.
I don't know *anything* about Pat Dewine. If he's truly a flaming, barking mooonbat liberal, then by all means, we should vote for Mr. Brinkman. However, as we learned in 1996 and the Dems learned in 2004, voting *against* someone is a sure path to defeat.
Being from Texas, I'll not be able to vote for Pat DeWine or Brinkman, but unless Brinkman has skeletons in his closet, Ohioans need to support him over DeWine.
Sorry you can't seem to grasp the concept that daddy DeWine has not only put the GOP and our country in jeopardy with his "moderate" stunt, he's hurt his son's political career with his foolish actions. If both Brinkman & Pat DeWine are considered conservative, why in the world would any sane voter risk voting for the son of a traitor? It has nothing to do with fairness, just plain old common sense.
Many of us suspect that some of these senators have been blackmailed to defect from supporting the President. We all know Hillary's stolen FBI files have probably come in handy. Granted, this theory cannot be proven, but it doesn't make sense for DeWine to have abandoned the party and the President knowing very well how he has angered his constituents. DeWine had to consider such a vote to be a poison pill, risking a political backlash against both he and his son. As they say, he made his bed. Now he's got to lay in it. Nobody ever said politics was fair...
Does anyone know how this election is going? I'm very interested to see if the people of the great state of Ohio send a message to Senator DeWine.
