Congressional Black Caucus Condemns Senate Filibuster "Deal"
Members call on all Senators to Defeat Brown and Pryor
Washington, D.C. - After reviewing the Senate filibuster "deal" agreed to by fourteen U.S. Senators, U.S. Rep. Melvin L. Watt (D-N.C.) issued the following statement on behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus:
"The Congressional Black Caucus strongly opposes the "deal" that trades judges who oppose our civil rights for a temporary filibuster ceasefire. This deal is more of a capitulation than a compromise. Two of the three judges in the agreed to in the "deal", Janice Rogers Brown and William Pryor, have documented histories of opposing the rights of African Americans and of hostility to the broad mainstream of law and rights enacted by the Congress over the past 75 years. The only way to make a bad deal worse would be for these judges to succeed in getting the 51 percent of the Senate votes they will need for confirmation. Even under the terms of this deal, these nominees can go on the bench only if they get the majority of the Senate to approve them. We will be looking closely at the votes as they occur and expect any Senator who seeks our support and the support of our constituents to reject the judges who have rejected the obligation to protect our rights."

In another manner of speaking, "These judges are under the impression that Blacks are competent and can, with work and due diligence, accomplish their goals without the use of quotas to give them an advantage over every other applicant."

If they're doing it because she's black, that's racist.
If they're doing it because she's a strict constructionist, that's bigoted.

Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken but I didn't realize affirmative action was a civil right. Did I miss something?
INCREDIBLE! To believe that Janice Rogers Brown is against civil rights and justice, I would have to believe that the 76% of Californians that voted to keep her as a judge are also opposed to civil rights and justice.
Northern California Republicans should use this in their campaign against Senator Feinstein in 2006 if Feinstein votes against Janice.
Giving the CBC one more thing to complain about doesn't make things worse in my book. I doubt many people here would take anything the CBC has to say very seriously, they've sold themselves out and made outrageous remarks so frequently.
They sour the debate, remove it from the public square and create enmity on all sides in their wake. It really is amazing how the founders of this country recognized that way back when and the elite in this country are oblivious to it now.

We're all wringing our hands, pointing fingers, withholding donations to the RNC, yet the judicial confirmations are starting to proceed.
We'll just have to see if the Democrats will raise the "extreme circumstances" argument. They might not.
Another black on black crime. Liberals cannot allow another black to succeed without kissing their race baiting ring.
Apparently, working your way through law school and becoming a successful judge without the benefit of racial preferences or quotas is NOT a right if you are black. You might convey the very dangerous message that - gasp! - blacks can make it on their own! And G-d forbid, they might actually be able to think independently and not toe the Dumbocratic party line. We certainly can't have that!
