Centrists from both parties reached a compromise Monday night to avoid a showdown on President Bushs stalled judicial nominees and the Senates own filibuster rules, officials from both parties said.

The judges all would have gotten a vote, and all would have been confirmed, if the Constitutional option had been taken. Plus, Supreme Court nominations would come under the same no filibuster rules. That would have been the big prize, and the RINOs just forfeited it, at least for now.

PKM, your post #225, well said.
Very well said, indeed.
This thread needed that, thank you.

We'll see. I think you're wrong. I think in a few weeks we get all our judges and they still pontificate. That's fine with me.
I don't need the appearance of winning. Just the scoreboard.

Where has the RNC Chairman been all week? These people are cowards, and are merely running my old party like it's merely a business. I absolutely agree with this, the RNC has done a horrible job of getting out in front on this issue. There should be no questions in the minds of a majority of Americans of the lack of filibuster history. Yes the RNC did in fact show little leadership and deserves criticism and a swift kick to the wallet.

"Did I just see what I just saw on Fox News? A paid :60 commercial with Harry Reid bashing the Republicans, after this 'deal?' "
This is what angers me. The GOP doesn't have the guts to do this.
Say what you will about this being the product of the RINOs, but where were the conservatives?
The GOP just back stabbed its Christian core. Now... I will pull the knife out of my back and stab them.
Fool me once and it's your fault. Fool me twice and it's my fault.

RE#225....good points. Please keep up with your personal efforts in Oklahoma.

One small point. Dingy Harry can say whatever he wants, but that doesn't mean a) they filibuster them; b) that the six Dems don't go over the side; or c) that we don't do the Constitutional option all over again due to "extraordinary circumstances." See, the language works both ways. Just watch.
Remember Sun Tzu.

I'll bet that less than 1 in 100 voters even knows the name of the GOP Chairman. Everyone knows Howard Dean.
What a travesty.

I agree. Time to get serious about a third party. We should approach existing conservitive Republicans and start up a new party with a platform that we will try to actually implement.

The Republicans need to now vote against Cloture tomorrow so that a ruling can still be asked for from the chair...this will sink Mcpain and his precious compromise... Interesting tactic, but easily countered by everyone else reversing their position, with the dirty 14 and the rest of the Dims voting for cloture.

What you are missing is this simple fact: The Rats have always claimed that there were extraordinary circumstances. That was their basis for opposing every judicial nominee they have opposed. All we have is a promise (and what is a Rat's promise worth?) that they will vote for cloture on three judges. In return, the RINOs promise to vote against the nuclear option. That's all.
There will be plenty of "extraordinary circumstances" justifying the filibuster in the Rats' tiny minds.
They have played McVain, etc. for fools. Which they are.

The only thing that would surprise me is if the pubbies actually grew a set. Or maybe they just had their fingers crossed the whole time.
There was a time when McCain (a.k.a. King of the RINOs) and the rest of these gutless wretches would have been made to pay for their treachery. Not any more.
Ah well. I expect all the GOP hacks and pubbie-bots will rationalize away this bit of stupidity as well.

stupid move. We need to band together and punt these people. Don't go wasting your vote on a 3rd party nightmare. Remember that little puke from Texas that helped us get 8 years of slick willie?
Absolutely. Wait and see official confirmation for Owen, Pryor, Brown, then push some more. Get a lot farther in increments than a big bang. Worse thing we can do is bail - that's a sure Dem win.

After reading the doom & gloom posts, I went & checked the link on Drudge.
This is Under the terms, Democrats would agree to oppose any attempt to filibuster - and thus block final votes - on the confirmation of Priscilla Owen, Janice Rogers Brown and William Pryor. There is "no commitment to vote for or against" the filibuster against two other conservative nominees, Henry Saad and William Myers.
This looks like an incremental win for us & the fight continues.
To: mollynme
For their part, Republicans agreed not to support an attempt to strip Democrats of their right to block votes. From the article. If the RATS try a filibuster in "extraordinary" circumstances, the RINO'S wont's vote for the Nuke Option.

Ok, what happens when Rehnquist retires Rehnquist might not make it to retirement. He made an unexpected visit to the Capital medical department today. The Court does not have it's own doctors, just a couple of nurses, and folks at the Court often use the Capital medical department, which is only a long block away from the SC Building.

ok ... so lets go down your road...
some future judge is deemed (unfairly) to be extreme and is filibustered by the democrats...
.....
Then we just move to change the rules at that time to prevent filibusters.
The rules can be changed anytime we want them to be changed.
Everyone is acting like this is our one and only chance to change the rules.
The fact is we get a guarantee of confirmation on the judges we want most and if the dems shout "extreme circumstances" on future nominees we just pull the constitutional trigger then.... simple really.
