Centrists from both parties reached a compromise Monday night to avoid a showdown on President Bushs stalled judicial nominees and the Senates own filibuster rules, officials from both parties said.

Tactically, the Dems have gained nothing from this deal and they given up quite a bit. The Republicans have gained a certifiable framework for "extreme", that being anyone to the "right" of Brown, Owens and Pryor.
They've also forced the Dems to go back on their objections to Brown, Pryor and Owens. Why are they now acceptable when they weren't six months ago? What shift has occured? Who do they explain that away?
NO MORE VOTES NO MORE MONEY for the spineless rep's and rino's
Some of you on here have not very supportive of Republicans to begin with -- how do you think Frist could control McCain and others when they had their minds made up. He didn't have the votes after the 6th Republican agreed to make a deal.
The lack of politial savvy on this website is disturbing since so many of you pretend you know everything about politics. You want it all but sometimes it doesn't work that way when you have moderates and not all conservatives in the Republican Party.
Leave the Republicans and vote 3rd Party so we can get more liberal RATs in the Senate -- that's the ticket. (sarcasm)
I do believe this website is quickly falling into "my way or no way" mentality. Why don't some of you get out and work to elect conservatives in your State -- if your two Senators were not part of the compromise, then blame others on here from States with moderate Senators. My two Senators from Oklahoma are conservative and not part of the agreement -- am not about to desert them for any reason and especially a half baked reason like some on here have suggested.
Go ahead and trash all Republican Senators and change your party registration -- that is really is intelligent (sarcasm). Personally you all can have this site to trash Republicans and if the RATs take charge then you will all be happy.
I am through disagreeing with anyone here after what I am reading on this thread. You can all have this site for all I care. I am in the trenches trying to elect Conservative Republicans which we have in Oklahoma and am tired putting up with the 3rd party folks pretending to be Republicans or trolls pretending to be conservative -- not worth my time as I have better ways to spend my time like getting a County Party back on its feet. I miss a lot of people who have left because they added common sense to some of these threads instead of the half baked replies I am seeing recently.
Enjoy your trashing and see what you end up with in the end. I will take my chances and spend my time on our Oklahoma Republicans and helping defeat a RAT Governor and take control of our Senate for the first time next year so conservatives will control all of OK State Government. Time better spent IMHO!
I don't know. Sure, it seems pretty spineless on the face of it, but this may ultimately work to our advantage. It moves things forward now, and when, as we all expect, "extreme circumstances" happens to be the next Bush nominee; then (a) by any reasonable interpretation of the facts, they will have violated the agreement, leaving the GOP free to reinstate the "nuclear" option, and (b) it should be even more obvious to anyone with even a slightly open mind that the Dems are not going to let a little something like their collective word stand in the way of a partisan power play.
Check out the text of the deal: http://www.nationalreview.com/pdf/compromise.pdf
What do you think those 7 Democrats meant by "make no committment" regarding a cloture vote on Saad and Myers? This is a carte blanche for them to filibuster those two nominees, and nobody will be able to claim that they violated the deal of only filibustering "extremists," since Saad and Myers were specifically described in the deal as being filibusterable.
The RATs kicked our ass by getting 7 RINOs to go along with their plan. There are only 45 Democrat Senators, yet they were able to block 2 qualified judicial nominees and got a promise from the 7 RINOs not to vote to change the rules. Outrageous!
Wow.
I would have thought they would have been having an orgy, if for no other reason - all the folks here that have said they quit the Republican Party.
LVM
There are ALOT of Dems and Repubs opposed to any kind of compromise and there's going to be hell to pay, IMO.
Committee assignment changes, perhaps?
How about that military closing up in Maine? I noticed that the RINO Olympia Snowe was in on the compromise.
Should be interesting to watch:-)
Of course they're fuming, let them rot, they really abhor the possibility of Owen, Pryor, Brown confirmations. Rule of thumb - if you want to know how big you won - look at the other side's reaction. :)
a dammed TIE!....
I hate ties worser than Indy hates snakes.....just damn.
Okay. Fair enough.
Love the graphic, but can it be edited so the RINO is atop an elephant? It's the GOP that's always on the receiving end of a RINO.
The commercial had to have been made, scheduled and paid for before the deal was announced. Not necessarily before the deal was actually made. I guess I'd better put on my tinfoil hat, but I smell a Rat, although there's a big wiff of RINO too, which stinks just as badly.
This is 100% B.S. I feel really ill about our elected Republican Senators. The Rats, while in the minority no less, have swindled them and frankly it's embarrassing. You might as well give them the majority. Does anyone for a minute think that when the RATS were in POWER again......ohhhh just forget it,yeah just forget it and go along with my merry little life and love my family and stay embarrassed to be a Republican. This is just great isn't it? Perhaps Rush will appease me tomorrow. I personally hope he verbally abuses them and on TV too.
Can't we invoke the nuclear option if the Dems renege on their promise to "...not filibuster except in extreme circumstances"?
Reid just said on national TV they would continue to filibuster them. So much for your "extraordinary circumstances" And don't forget to look for Democartic screaming and ranting when the SCOTUS slots come up.
Now is not the time to bolt the Republican party. It is time however to take a message to the RNC and way past time to do some serious house cleaning. South Carolina needs a real scrubbing. Graham has lost any confidence I ever had in him. Both he and Byrd need some real serious opposition. Arizona needs to be refocused. McCain is past due and has ridden the POW train too long. I cannot believe the citizens of Maine can keep sending Collins and Snowe back. The RNC needs to do some serious work in that state. And that brings me to "POP" Warner. Time to go Senator Foghorn Leghorn. You need your committee reassigned to someone else.
So lets don't leave the Republican Party, there is serious work do do here and damn soon. Stop the money until they focus on these Senators. Let's insist the RNC do it's job and lets get busy in the states where these RINOs hide and skin'm PDQ.
