"I like this deal. The bar has already been set with a commitment to vote for the three most "extreme" nominees of Brown, Owen and Pryor. Ideology alone will no longer be sufficient to defeat a nominee. That's how I read this deal."

I often joust with you. This time I am leaning the same way you are. I'm willing to see how this plays out during the coming days and weeks before giving my judgment.

Souter is a prime example of the kind of trash you get on the SC when you cowtow to Rat pressure and compromise.

I know that not one Republican voted against Souter. Don't know Breyer's vote.

No matter what happens....the media will paint it as a Dem win....that's a given.

I'm trying to hang on to the positves....Brown, Owens & Pryor....and now I'm thinking that this may be the best we could get especially if Frist didn't have the votes needed to nuke the judicial filibuster.

I memorized the GOP, not the democrats.

I know the rats included:

Nelson of Nebraska; SHEETS; LIEberman; Pyror of Arkinsas;

and three others.

Acceptable attributes: pro abortion; gay rights and anti 2nd Amendment

Only the Republican party could screw up such a monumental mandate given to them last November. Bush isn't even on the radar anymore. I've lost faith in him and all of them. They choked. They're all a bunch of losers.

Absolutely right. The Senate "uber alles," that's all that matters. Good old boys and all that rot. Pompous pieces of RINO crap like John Waughna need to be sent to the back benches where they belong...hell, they're sure not leaders. Even Graham (RINO-SC) fell quickly into the Senate tradition of "comity" by Republicans at any price.

Your right. I'll I see in the political future is some third party of ticked off Republicans walking toward us like the Grim Reaper.

I'm mad as Hell with our party, our elected officials have no guts and get butterflies in the stomach before they do a damned thing.

We take back more seats in Congress, Bush remains president with more votes in US history and our officials act like children sneaking around the cookie jar...

Why do you "respect" his service? Could it be that you don't know anything about it, but the propaganda?

Don't know, do you, that when captured, he told the Viet Cong who his father and grandfather was...against regulations? That he would have washed out, because he was such a lousy pilot, but his father pulled stings and all the rest of it?

I get it just fine, thanks for asking.

I would have preferred to have had a vote tomorrow and won it too. But that didn't happen. One hopes for more than people running around screaming about the sky falling.

The Constitutional Option is still there as much as it always was. But it won't be invoked unless the Dems filibuster. If they do, then a vote can be called and the 7 can decide if they want to accept the Dems argument that it is "an extreme case". Not much has changed. If two of them disagree, then the CO passes, same as it would if the vote were tomorrow.

I am so sick of these RINOs and their freakin grandstanding! I hate them more than I hate the Rats. At least the Rats know what they stand for. I would rather have an honest enemy than a treacherous "ally".

John McCain is the "France" of the Republican party

There is one other option left, but its a real long shot. Bush can reject the arrangement and claim it as evidence that he has exhausted all reasonable avenues of redress. Then the White house can file a Federal suit claiming that the Senate is not performing its constitutional duty. The Supreme Court would have to take it up, but where they will come down on this is any body's guess. The only thing I can say is that the President will never again have as much influence over the court as he has now.

Perhaps Frist needs some help in herding those cats. What have you done to help?

Your question nails it.

Without intending to reference any particular FReeper as having not done enough, many FReepers who now denounce ALL the Republicans as traitors or spineless have:

never lifted a finger in the judicial nominations fight

never showed up for the March for Justice II

never contributed to the cost of it

never wrote to their Senators

never called their Senators' offices

never wrote to their local newspapers

never took a single tangible action to advance the judicial nomination process.

Those FReepers (not you, but they know who they are) should look into a mirror if they want to blame someone for the problems in getting the Const. option through.

What the Republicans did tonight is going to bring "the base" out to vote in '06???? Please explain. "THIS will bring true conservative voters to the polls like never before." Huh? The Republicans sabotaging conservatives is going to make conservatives want to vote for them like never before? I really don't understand what you mean.
