is that right?

I have no idea. You're asking a guy who just got home from work. All I know of the "deal" is what I'm reading on this thread (and it's been hard to sort out what the deal is).

Count me more than skeptical.

Count me repelled and disgusted, first.

Then count me outright disbelieving.

Not over this.

Who "might" take his place? NOBODY; he won't be removed over this debacle. :-(

The nuke option no longer exists with 14 turncoat republican senators.

There are only seven Republicans "turncoats" and the nuke option exists if the moderate Dems go back to filibustering judicial nominees.

That's a "chit list" to behold.

These people are cowards... damned cowards.

Why the hell do they allow the dems to continue to call the shots?

Thanks for the link to 702. It's gotten buried.

But that being the case, do you think any of these Quislings can be trusted with their "word"? I still think if enough pressure is applied on them at some future date, some may cave.

You may be right about the destruction of the party. Tonight I resigned from my city committee and county committee. Between the RINO infestation, our leadership deficite and immigration, there is nothing to fight for in the Republican party.

Why work for our own demise as a country?

Nope, Frist makes Lott look spectacular and that's a remarkable feat.

Are you admitting or informing me that the 3 who are certain to be confirmed are truly conservative extremists? LOL!

Three as opposed to "none" about a week ago. Take the three, regroup, and continue the good fight. I guarantee you, this "deal" is about as solid as a plate of jello in the hot sun.

Let's be fair here: in "doing nothing," as you say, the Republicans get their three most conservative judicial nominations approved.

We don't even know that for sure. The best thing we can hope for is for the Democrats to not hold up their end of the bargain. I am counting on this happening. You cannot trust RINO's or Democrats to do the right thing, this was exemplified today.

Consulting doesn't mean they approve his picks... it just means they have some input. Reagan used to "consult." He'd pick a few that he'd like, then would ask the Rat which of the 3 he thought would be a good choice. Picking Ben Nelson's conservative golfing buddy isn't a hard thing to do.

As I wrote, the Democrats picked up 7 seats tonight and we are in the minority. We have to fight from a new position. In the meantime some of those judges will probably be approved but Traitor McCain staged a coup d'etat on both Senator Frist and President Bush this month. He must be removed from office, along with the other 6 RINO traitors.

>>>>Your anger is missplaced. It wasn't Frist who pulled off this tratorous act. It was McCain, Warner, Snowe, Collins, Chafee and Graham. Get with the program.

And your apparent support of Frist is just as misplaced. His leadership is lacking. This 'deal' would not have had to have happened at all had Frist but one molecule of testicular fortitude. If he did, the 'Rats would be actually doing a true filibuster, and the Republicans would not be cowering at the threat of one as they have been for months now.

Extraordinary circumstances = pro life; pro gun ownership

extreme = a trail (however short) of conservative judicial opinions;

Acceptable attributes: pro abortion; gay rights and anti 2nd Amendment.

Here is how the text would read, if it meant what two of you think it means, and wanted to close the loopholes:

We have agreed to the following:

Part I: Commitments on Pending Judicial Nominations

A. Votes for Certain Nominees. We will vote to invoke cloture on the following judicial nominees: Janice Rogers Brown (D.C. Circuit), William Pryor (11th Circuit), and Priscilla Owen (5th Circuit).

B. Status of Other Nominees. Signatories make no commitment to vote for or against cloture on the following judicial nominees: William Myers (9th Circuit) and Henry Saad (6th Circuit).

Part II: Commitments for Future Nominations

A. Future Nominations. Signatories will exercise their responsibilities under the Advice and Consent Clause of the United States Constitution in good faith. Nominees should only be filibustered under extraordinary circumstances, and each signatory must use his or her own discretion and judgment in determining whether such circumstances exist.

B. Rules Changes. In light of the spirit and continuing commitments made in this agreement, where each of us believes that all of us have acted in good faith in determining whether or not extraordinary cicumstances exist, and all of us have voted for cloture where such circumstances do not exist, we to that extent commit to oppose the rules changes in the 109th Congress, which we understand to be any amendment to or interpretation of the Rules of the Senate that would force a vote on a judicial nomination by means other than unanimous consent or Rule XXII.

But in waiting or fending off the nuclear option, the Dems have fallen back. We've gain territory in the persons of Owen, Brown, and Pryor. Let's take what they've given by means of retreat, and then fight them at that point.
