If they are really saying that they don't want to use filbusters against Judicial Nominees-- then the Republicans get the judges they want. If they are lying, then we will be free to invoke the Nuclear Option.

Sorry Robin...those assumptions are too rosy. If you think the same RINO's won't again "compromise" if the leadership tries to change the rule to 51 votes on judges in the future then I'm afraid you've been breathing too much Joker gas.

Just who are you going to vote for and/or support?

There are always others on the ballot...libertarian, constitution party, independent, etc.....I'd even do a "write-in." But in principle, I could not vote for a RINO...never have...never will.

Why? You wouldn't know one anyway.

Your style of argument is SO GOOD.

How many votes does it take to change senate rules (for the nuclear option)?

The same it has always been, 51% of the quorum. A rule is governed only by the Senate(as long as it is constitutional).

No.
It means no rule change, and anybody who wants to define "extraordinaty circumstance" can do so as they deem fit.

WRONG!

We got and up or down vote on 3 judicial nominations, lost out of 7, made the "nuclear option" off the table for the foreseeable future, and McQueeg's pulled off a coup de tat on Frist, thumbed his nose at President Bush, and French kissed Sheets Byrd's arse, on T.V.!

How many votes does the nuclear option require? Isn't it a super majority?

50 with Cheany casting the deciding vote.

I don't agree with your lawyer-like analysis of things. This is based on a good faith understanding. It is not enforceable in court, by the senate parliamentarian, or anywhere else... so hyper-technical readings are of little import. If the Pubbies feel the Dems are not living up to the spirit of the deal reached, then we're right back to square one. Lindsey Graham, a signatory, has already made that quite clear.

'..how Dems could filibuster Owens/Brown for nomination to Supreme Court..'

This seems to be the only good thing coming out of this fiasco. But, as we've seen, the Dems are quite cabable of finding a way to get what they want....so wouldn't be surprised to see them filibuster either of these women if nominated for SC.

No senator should ever, ever be president. They are genetically incapable of managing, and genetically incapable of anything beyond compromise.

What if Jim is correct....what if the 6 have decided to sell out Brown and Owens.

Time will tell exactly what happen behind the scene .. the media will be all over this

But this just kicked it down the road to the USSC nominee

The Dems bought themselves some time and in the end(imo) we get screwed

They should have done it now and get it over with

If I was the President and if the members of my party were blind-sighting me, I would ask my party to not give them a dime for their re-election. I will go ahead and hand-pick primary opponents. Expect none of that.

Can Frist be removed? If so, who might take his place?

But you are missing the point: the Rinos have commited to voting agisnt the rule change no matter what the democrats do.

The democrats have langauge in this to filibuster, the RINOS have taken that away from the GOP.

It is a great win for them.

This is a sellout of the GOP by 7 of their own.

When you wash it all and hang it up to dry, nothing really changes except three judges get confirmed.

Saad and probably Meyer get thrown under the bus.
