Latin America: Odd, that as "popular" as Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is said to be, he's so detested by Venezuelans that he can no longer go to baseball games without being booed by the whole stadium.

Chavez's people don't go to baseball games.

He's so afraid of potential rebellions that some observers believe his real game is to set up a safe place in Havana for Venezuela's biggest money centers oil and banking. That in turn would keep cash within his access. No people-power revolution can reach this money in Havana. Or possibly he's being groomed as Castro's successor. Afterall, don't you think he could rule Venezuela from Havana, or Cuba from Carracas?

Castro gives nothing of value in return for Venezuela's 90,000 barrels of oil a day, worth $1 billion, shipped each year to Cuba. So now it looks like the Venezuelan people are supporting Cuba in addition to their own families. Ya gotta hand it to Castro. He really has perfected the art of being a beggar.

There's no question baseball is popular in Venezuela. The people who follow after Chavez have other priorities.

Chavez is being deliberately and noisily provocative in the way Kim Jong Il has been - it's almost like a little kid demanding his parents' attention. Pity this little kid is bullying his neighbors so.
No one is really worried about Venezualan planes strafing Miami. Bogota, now, that's another matter.

Chavez has to go. Venezuela is too strategically important to us to let it be run by a Castro clone.
We should finally do what he accuses us of doing from the start. Organize a coup.
