National Review Online's Marshall suggested Newsweek probably didn't know desecrating a Quran is a capital offense in "Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan, and elsewhere" with enlightened Pakistan meting out only life imprisonment. Frankly, if we tolerate artwork such as "Piss Christ" and "Dung Virgin," we should be able to shrug off Commode Quran.
As a Pakistani journalist told The New York Times, the Newsweek item confirmed suspicions of "a straight disrespect for the sensitivities of Muslims."
Please. We see the "sensitivities" of some Muslims blowing up other Muslims on a daily basis in Iraq. We saw the sensitivities of Albanian Muslims on a rampage in March 2004, when they destroyed more than 30 Orthodox churches and monasteries in Kosovo. We saw the sensitivities of Taliban Muslims in 2001 when they dynamited the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan. We saw the sensitivities of Palestinian Muslims when in 2000 they violently obliterated Joseph's Tomb in Nablus. In 2002, Nigerian Muslims took their sensitivities to the streets after This Day newspaper reported on beauty pageant contestants so lovely the prophet Mohammed would "probably have chosen a wife from one of them." Before you could say, "The Quran is in the toilet," more than 200 people lost their lives in riots that also left 11,000 people homeless. Also in 2002, armed Palestinian guerrillas and their sensitivities occupied the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. As the Jerusalem Post reported, "Catholic priests later said that some Bibles were torn up for toilet paper."
I don't recall riots breaking out in St. Peter's Square. Which is why the West still stands on one side of the chasm, and Islam stands on the other. From this vantage point, we can give Newsweek a pass but not such violently uncivilized behavior.

As one very astute FReeper wrote, on another thread (STOP APOLOGIZING TO ISLAM! by Barbara Stock), "We stop trying to flush the Koran, you stop beheading Americans... Deal?"
Are the "free copies" of the Koran which are being handed out by CAIR....heavily edited? Redacted?.......to exclude all of those hundreds of verses demanding DEATH to all non-Muslims? If they aren't redacted, then where is the "peace" in the Koran? Where is the "greatness" which justifies the dignified label, "one of the world's great religions?" What is "great" about perpetual mass murder over 14 centuries?
i don't think it was a "blunder".
i think it was part of a deliberate attempt to destroy president bush's success.
Answer: (sound of crickets)
Next time I have a loose dump-maybe as a result of too many Three mile Island or nuclear wings I am going to wipe my a$$ with the queerann. That "document" is a filthy piece of crap and deserves to be flushed.
All religions are equal in their greatness, except evangelical Christianity, Judaism, and Catholicism. Haven't you been watching the news?
I concur. This was no mistake by Newsweek; it was an intentional attempt to undermine President Bush and our troops. These liberal media folks hate the success of the war on terror, and will work as hard as they can to do damage. IMHO, its apparent, now that the NYTimes and other liberal media outlets have come to the defense of Isikoff and his pals.
Latest issue of NewsFreak, a dying magazine ...
I wonder what all those American "churches" who are divesting from Israel think of that.
I absolutely agree with you.
And .. they WANTED THE STORY TO BE TRUE. Which is exactly what CBS did too. In their LUST to damage or embarrass the Bush admin and our military - THEY DIDN'T CARE IF THE STORY WASN'T TRUE.
The Left is already blaming Bush for not solving Newsweek's little problem early and forcefully. For heaven's sake, Bush was supposed to clean up this mess. The fact that he didn't, and not only that, but suggested that Newsweek take responsibility, apologize, etc.,is clear evidence of his incompetence and lack of caring. Now we have immams threatening to kill him, blow up the White House, and nuke D.C., and it's all his fault. (You just have to nuance a little to follow their logic.)
Alas, that is one of the great mysteries. The all-knowing Creator knew when he created Lucifer what was to come. Hopefully, we'll know the answers when we get to heaven.
I think it has something to do with the laws of the universe -
- you can't have day without night,
- cold without hot,
- love without hate,
- good without evil.
On one of those reporter roundtables on Fox, when the leftist reporterette, Jane...was asked if somebody should be fired over at Newsweek (held accountable for journalistic lies, sloppy reporting, dead people, etc.) a painful silence ensued. A few words were mentioned about Leftist reporters doing anything to bring down Bush and how maybe this isn't such a good idea if it results in cities getting nuked, and then they actually mentioned what should have been obvious years ago, that we can't let monsters get away with mass murder and then apologize to them over what amounts to nonsense.
If He has kept things in balance, there must a lot (one billion plus) saints with us today to balance out all those Muslims.
Ping!
