Regarding "Filibuster's traditional use is ignored" (Letters, Wednesday):
The writer said the filibuster has never been used before to block a judicial nominee. The truth is that during the Clinton administration, 60 judicial nominees were blocked by Republicans, using means including the filibuster. In fact, Bill Frist even joined in the filibuster of 9th Circuit nominee Richard Paez.
Also, Democrats have approved more than 200 of President Bush's judicial nominees while only 10 have been blocked. For Republicans to make such a big deal over those 10 nominations while they blocked 60 of Clinton's nominees is extremely misleading and hypocritical.
It would also be in their best interest to preserve the filibuster, since they will be in the minority someday and I'm sure they will wish they had.
The Mods squished 'im till his guts popped out.
Poor little thing.
You know, you just have to love the fact that as soon as someone posts something that doesnt fully agree with your point of view, or might actually show you to be the hypocrites you are, you instantly ban him. Doesn't it get boring haaveing an entire message board where all you do is agree with yourselves over and over? I mean theres no discussion if everyone has the same point of view. Hell, just for my name i will probably get banned. But tell me this, how is he a "troll"? A troll is someone who comes onto boards and posts random inflamatory remarks. This is not just an inflamatory remark. This was meant to start a valid discussion. But no, lets all completely ignore the pointthat he made and just have 60 posts pleading for him to get banned. Way to go.
You know, i guess this guy was right "In America you're free as long as you conform to the rules and don't complain and wave your flag like a good Christian."
And it did...did you not agree with the FACTS presented in said valid discussion?
Paez was confirmed. He is sitting on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Get your facts straight first. He is (in my opinion) extreme to the left and should not have been confirmed.
You liberals complain that the proposed nominees are too far to the right. Well, get rid of the left leaners on the bench, like Paez, and we can talk. You do not allow the Repubs practice the same selection process as you took advantage of during Klinton or Paez would never have been confirmed.
As to the deal with the number of judges confirmed, lets look at the number of Appeals Court Judges that have been held up. Just like a liberal, you use irrelevant figures (Judicial appointments to the trial court) to prove your point. Again get your facts straight.
In the minority again? Well we won. We need to start acting that way.

Sorry guys but I think this is correct. I seem to recall the same thing.
And the Republicans were the majority party for six of those eight years. Even so, a left-wing nut cases like Ruth of ACLU and Breyer somehow were confirmed to the Supreme Court. It seems Democratic brains are just tiny to hold the concept of minority status. "So what if we've lost a string of elections. We want what we want and we wont be denied." Their entitlement attitude isn't solely for their constituents.
Its not correct you are wrong, Paez sits today on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, but if you are too lazy to read and research things for yourself believe whatever you like.
A cloture vote was called by Orrin Hatch when the Republicans where in the majority, the purpose of the vote was to break a threatened filibuster by a couple of maverick repubs.
Paez was never filibustered, period.
