Koran Ordered Online Contains Hate Slogans (It Was A Used Book For Pete's Sake)
CAIR ^ | 19 May 2005 | CAIR/LA Times

Posted on 05/19/2005 4:45:27 PM PDT by Cornpone

A Culver City woman said Wednesday that a secondhand Koran she ordered through a book dealer working with Amazon.com contained anti-Islamic hate messages, including profanity and "Death to all Muslims!" Azza Basarudin, a 30-year-old UCLA graduate student, said Amazon apologized, sent a new book and offered her a refund and gift certificate. But she and the Muslim Public Affairs Council called on the online bookseller to do more, including issuing a public condemnation of anti-Muslim hate speech and cutting commercial ties with the Pennsylvania-based book dealer that sent the Koran. Holding up the book to display the messages at a news conference Wednesday, Basarudin said the incident resurrected the fear she felt after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, when anxiety about anti-Muslim sentiment made her reluctant to leave her apartment for two weeks. "I was taken back to 9/11, my fear that somebody is going to hurt me," Basarudin said at the Islamic Center of Southern California in Los Angeles.

"I felt that fear coming back. It really hurt me." Amazon spokeswoman Patty Smith called the incident "appalling." She said the Seattle-based firm had worked with the book dealer, Bellwether Books, to strengthen quality-control checks and suspended it from selling Korans on Amazon's website. "We're deeply sorry and we think we've taken all appropriate steps to make sure this is not done again," Smith said. The Los Angeles-based Muslim council also released a hate message left on the voicemail of the Islamic Center on Saturday. In a taunting tone, the caller said he had just used the Koran in the bathroom and flushed it down the toilet. The Southern California incidents followed an international furor over reports that U.S. military interrogators had flushed a Koran down the toilet to unnerve prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba. The reports, which Newsweek magazine first reported then retracted this week, helped spark anti-American violence that led to deaths in Afghanistan.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations released a study last week that showed reported hate crimes against Muslims nationwide in 2004 increased 52% over the previous year, to 141 incidents. There was also a 49% increase in alleged civil rights violations, to 1,522. (MORE)

I seem recall seeing a clip of Marilyn Manson tearing up a Bible onstage, and of course the government subsidized "Piss Christ" ... how come nobody every got upset over that?

"Did they check the handwriting to see if it was hers?"

a) It was a used book

b) It would be blasphemy to challenge the word of a Muslim...they wouldn't dare...besides the word of an infidel carries no weight in an Islamic court...if she said it happened it happened...trust Allah

Do we have any statisticians on the board? Because 141 incidences out of over 2million American Muslims is statistically ZERO I believe. I bet 141 Muslims drowned in puddles last year, or 141 dogs swam in the ocean and were eaten by jellyfish.

"The Council on American-Islamic Relations released a study last week that showed reported hate crimes against Muslims nationwide in 2004 increased 52% over the previous year, to 141 incidents."

If there is such a thing as a "Right-Wing Attack Machine" then someone tell the pilot to steer towards CAIR. This is getting ridiculous.

I'd be curious as to how she proved that the hate speech was in the Koran before she received it.

Also, as someone mentioned, it was a used book. I found lots of offensive things written in used textbooks I paid through the nose for, that doesn't mean the seller is responsible.

Making the company who sold the book responsible does not in any way affect the person who actually penned the "hate speech", nor does it do anything to curb the anti-Muslim/Islam rhetoric and sentiment that the CAIR is complaining about.

The only thing that will set this right is bloody riots, murders,...and a Jihad for good measure.

The Religion of Peace demands nothing less.

Who CAIRs?

Have they offered a retraction to their last press release (that the antiAmerican press didn't question)? Seeing as how some of hte "harassment" noted were hoaxed, they really ought to look before they cry wolf again.

Agreed.

I've read of several accounts over the years (starting with Tawana Brawley) where greedy followers of that pseudo-religion known as "Victimization" stage phony hate-crime scenarios.

The fable of The Boy Who Cried Wolf couldn't be more relevant here. As far as this Islamic woman is concerned, she (or maybe with CAIR's help) has staged this thing to:

1) Squeeze Amazon.com for an easy insta-Lotto jackpot or
2) Exploit the Newsweek uproar by introducing more "proof" that the Big Bad Uncle Sam is against these "poor peaceful" Muslims.

Hmmmm...I wonder why she was so afraid. Could it be due to the FACT that the "Muslim Street" was gleefully cheering and celebrating the attacks of 9/11? Could it be due to her feelings of culpability for not speaking out against the attacks? Could it be because she knows the anger towards Muslims was (and is) justified?

If this woman knew anything about America and the values we hold dear then she would know that our anger was and remains justified but she would also know that all she need do is to speak out loudly against the attacks and against Islamofascism. We Americans are not going to go after someone who stands with us in condeming the actions of al quaeda and the minions of muhammed.

CAIR's Hate Crimes Nonsense

(excerpts):

This news prompted headlines in the mainstream media. “Muslims Report 50% Increase in Bias Crimes,” announced the New York Times; “Crimes, Complaints Involving Muslims Rise,” broadcast the Washington Post; and “Muslims Cite a Rise in Hate Crimes,” echoed the Los Angeles Times. That these leading newspapers treated the CAIR study as a serious piece of research served as an important endorsement.

Of twenty “anti-Muslim hate crimes” in 2004 that CAIR describes, at least six are invalid – and further research could likely find problems with the other fourteen instances. ..."

Tet68 said the incident resurrected the fear he felt after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, when anxiety about anti-American sentiment made him reluctant to leave his bunker for two weeks.

"I was taken back to 9/11, my belief that muslims were trying to kill me."

There, that's more like it.

CAIR is begging for reactionary violence against their preposterous claims of hate crimes...don't succumb to their fascist pleas to betray our values and feed their cause of hate...stand firm and resolute for our values, freedom and America
