Have not seen those pics, but my guess is they are not on the front of a paper associated to with the US.
Individuals have the right to say what they want, although some of what is being said is close to yelling fire in a theater. But people who publish for profit like NewsWeak have to be held to a higher standard.
By cloning a Newsweek front page, which is recognized around the world as American, the poster has not helped us. I agree in the ideal world we should be able to print what we want, when we want, but some things need to be handled carefully. Would we find it as funny if they were burning a cross on a front lawn?

That cover is obviously a lie. The plan to bomb Mecca is NOT "secret."

Not far off the mark. I heard of a plot that was "exposed" among some Jews to blow up the Dome of the Rock.

Ever notice how Islamic holy sites often are on top of the religious sites of conquored faiths?

OK. I hate to be the party pooper, but this is a bad idea.

Funny, but a bad idea.

Schmucks in the media will pick this up and print it as true (think of the Time Ann Coulter / Protest Warrior parody signs) and it will be widely distributed in the Muslim world. I apologize up front for being un-PC, but the less than well educated citzens of 99% of the world will believe it.

I'm not kiding. People may die because of this joke. You cannot produce things thinking that your audience is made up of rational people who get it or nimrods who can't do anything about their screwed up perceptions of reality.

Most would accuse me of being a glass half empty kind of guy. Frankly, I don't care about that. All I care is that the glass not have poison in it.

As an aside, I'm going to post a vanity thread after my current business trip. Your work came up in discussions after a session titled:

"Beyond Digital Fraud Lies ‘Counterfeit Reality’: When You Can’t Tell the Digital Fakes From Real Life"

at the Gartner IT conference here in San Francisco (I got limited permission to post info about their session). Most of the presentation was about memogate and the like, but how others have taken work like yours out of context (the Jane Fonda / John Kerry pastiche, for example) and pushed it as real was one of the items discussed with the presenters after the session. One of them was left of center, the other right, but both knew of FR and were fascinated both with the Buckhead stuff and how others have been dragged along by other people's "enthusiams" for less than real images. I think you might really enjoy talking to both of these guys. I'll freepmail you their names seperately.

funny, very funny.

Some FReepers really know how to lighten up a place.

Takes a very active and intelligent mind to think up things like this.

Hope you don't mind I passed it on to several others for a laugh.

Did you know that the federal government pays the fees of the ACLU lawyers with your tax dollars when they file a lawsuit against Americas traditions.

Please contact you congressional representatives and get this stopped.

It is said that parody works best when it's based on real-life experiences. This "fake" cover of Newsweek made me for quite a while.

"Would we find it as funny if they were burning a cross on a front lawn?"

We probably would wonder why they were such barbarians, and call the local LEO to deal with it. Exploitive groups would probably file suit claiming hate thoughts, damages, etc.

We would not have multiple riots in major US cities with various deaths, injuries. That is reserved for professional sports championship games and WTO meetings.

"the poster has not helped us"

Are you serious? If I understand you correctly, this was not PC internationally. Believe me brother, there is a lot worse satire out there, and a lot of it is pretty darn funny. Biting sarcasm and satire is what makes America unique. We shouldn't have to change. The rest of the world needs to lighten up and learn to recognize that other people's non-injurous actions should not threaten their religious beliefs. That is, if they feel confident in their beliefs.
