The Proponents of the Suicide Ideology Have Taken Advantage of Global Communications

The following are English translated excerpts from an article that appeared in Al-Yawm (Saudi Arabia) on May 12, 2005. I believe most of the current suicide terrorists are reported to be from Saudi Arabia and according to this author recruitment became worse when websites began disseminating pictures by email...the method the photos of Abu Ghraib were passed around. This article's clarity and simplicity motivated me to write the letter to Dan Rather that follows it.

May 12, 2005

Al-Yawm (Saudi Arabia)

"The Proponents of the Suicide Ideology Have Taken Advantage of Global Communications" by Sawsan Al-Sha'er. "One of the most conspicuous manifestations of globalization is communication technology, which has made communication between people easy, available, cheap, and accessible to all, large and small, with no need for a license or oversight, via open skies and without geographical or political borders. "The proponents of the suicide ideology have used global communications in the best possible way, taking advantage of all available and accessible means for disseminating their ideology and writings, with no borders or obstacles to prevent them from doing so. "Evidence of this is the effectiveness of recruitment of suicide bombers in all Islamic areas, with no need for central leadership to carry out the recruitment, or for a base to take them in. They carry out their suicide operations in many areas on all continents, with no political borders…

"All that is needed for recruiting suicide bombers is mass communications to spread the Islamist slogan. Today, the centers for recruiting suicide bombers are no more than websites or satellite television channels, to which the youth connect from internet cafés, scattered throughout our Arab world, that have boosted the still-active traditional recruitment centers concealed in the mosques in far-flung villages. "Further, perpetrating suicide attacks needs no leadership. Any group – even if it is small and limited in capability, and with primitive means – can carry out what it sees fit, as did the group that recently perpetrated the recent attacks in Cairo.

"I myself have visited many Jihad websites, and I have seen the extent of the degradation of the minds and lives of the youth, and I see how adults are profiteering from them. Things became worse when the websites began disseminating emails with murderous pictures and ideas that turn a man into a ticking bomb – as if these websites are stores selling weapons without restriction by laws or regulations…

"…In the Islamic section of a Bahrain paper, one writer published a series of over 20 articles, over the course of an entire year, in which he called on the youth to wage Jihad, cursed the Arab regimes and governments, and claimed that in today's societies there is apostasy and sin … and all this happened within earshot of and before the eyes of the paper's editor-in-chief and director – without them doing a thing to prevent the crime of selling this murderous weapon. This selling is still continuing, and the paper is still raking in the profits.

"The public recruitment centers do not need to call on the youth directly to commit suicide bombings – it is enough for them to create the enemy, and the enthusiasm of the youth takes care of the rest. The pulpits of our mosques are disseminating propaganda to the point where those who hear it say 'Enough.' The teachers in our schools are suckling our children on hatred of the other, and so on and so forth. All these are recruitment centers selling licenses to murder, to anyone who wants…

"Imagine that all these various centers – spoken and heard from the preachers' pulpits or on the satellite channels, and written in books or posted on websites – sell licenses to murder. Can we then ask where these murderers come from?...

"The sellers of licenses to kill have effectively taken advantagae of global communications to serve their purposes. And why not? After all, their activity is not subject to legislation or oversight… After we read about three English youths of Asian background breaking into one of the mosques in London to prevent the worshipers from voting in the recent elections, on the grounds that Muslims should not vote in these elections, expect the English 'Islamist' version of exploding suicide bombers soon. "This is the globalization of the suicide culture."

________________

To: Dan Rather, seller of licenses to murder.

Dear Mr. Rather:

Congratulations on receiving the Peabody Award for your coverage of Abu Ghraib. It must have been a memorable night for all of you. I am sure the applause was generous and lasted more than a respectable amount of time; after all, that is what the night was all about, wasn’t it, the respect of your peers…

Still I wonder was the applause loud enough and long enough to drown out the echo and cry of those murdered by the suicide bombers you recruited, the 'ticking time bombs' you created with your pictures and your words. To be sure, it can’t compare to a Peabody Award dinner, but the sight and sound of the human body sustaining massive concussive impact can be quite memorable, too – the searing and crackling of the skin on impact as it peels away effortlessly like a can of sardines being opened, the almost instantaneous stench of burning flesh and body hair, the hemorrhage of eyes and ears, mouth and nose, bright red punctuated bursts of blood still rhythmically pulsating from the last thrusts of a now fibrinous heart, the preemptory wheeze and tear of exploding lungs, the gurgle of aspirated vomit, the last pressing searing spasms as bowels and bladder, central nervous system, and finally tether of muscle and nerve simultaneously give way – what was seconds before a human living being now a gelatinous afterthought…

Do you ever give them much thought, Mr. Rather? Your victims? Do their aborted lives ever flash before your eyes? Do you ever wonder how they are doing – the mothers and fathers, the children and families left behind? Do you wonder what it is like for them to wake up each morning with ones they loved and cherished, they dreamed about and hoped for gone now forever. Do you ever think about their days and nights, the ache to hold, the heart cry to see – to touch - to feel - just one more time - a beloved one erased in a blur of final unthinkable violence – or are those emotions too ethereal, too complex for brown-skinned people of the desert designated by the American media as too stupid to vote, too simple to embrace or even understand democracy? I mean when you have time, when you aren’t out gathering facts for award winning news stories, do you ever think about any of that?

When you reached to take that award into your still attached, still whole, still functioning vascularized hands, did there remain on either of them the tiniest eschar or dried blood – the blood your hands spilled by 'creating an enemy' for angry young men trained in hate to focus on, leaving it to their 'enthusiasm' to do your dirty work of death, the work you are too dishonest, too spoiled, too soft, too cowardly – too unelected - to do yourself by light of day. And why? Because you hate George Bush, because you couldn’t get elected dogcatcher, because you can’t make policy, and because the media in its perpetual adolescence will stop at nothing to make George Bush, our military, this country, a failure. Did you wash both of your hands, Mr. Rather? Did you wash them both? Did you wash all the blood away, Mr. Rather? Are you sure? Please be sure.

I don’t mean to ask so many questions after such a wonderful evening, and we all know how proud you must have been to accept such a prestigious award but just one last question - actually two - when is it you recoil in horror from the thought and sound and sight – and smell - of what you have become? When is it, Mr. Rather, that you feel shame?

You wrote a wonderful letter.

Gives me pause to think about our media coddling the Palestinian terrorists despite the rain of terror wrought upon thousands of innocent Israeli's all these years.

Evidently there will be no accountability until each of these enablers meet the Lord and have to explain themselves.

Great letter you definitely put some thought into it. Unfortunalty Rathers name is interchangeable with just about every journalist out there. I hate to use “journalist” because now a days they only read the wire and claim it for themselves.

The proponents of the suicide ideology have made good use of the useful idiots. They just turn on the light and the dogs start to salivate.

To answer some of the questions that you asked Rather, mainly the answer is, no, he doesn't even stop to think about them and if he does, what are a few thousand more bodies on top of the millions of casulties of Communism? The victims are just unfortunate losses in their battle to enslave the world for it's own good.

Enough of this excuse making. I believe there’s more to this Arab suicide thing than can be blamed on religion or “Global Communications.” IMHO, It is far more likely that a defective gene is the culprit.
