MONTGOMERY, Ala. Alysha Cosby was told she couldn't take part in her graduation at St. Jude Educational Institute in Montgomery, Alabama, because she was pregnant.
But after the last student on the program received a diplomas, Cosby announced her own name and walked across the stage anyway -- to the cheers of many of her classmates at the Roman Catholic high school.
Still -- according to a newspaper (the Montgomery Advertiser) -- some at last night's ceremony considered her move in poor taste.
The school had delivered her diploma to her house earlier in the day, but she still wanted to take part in the ceremony.
Her mother was unapologetic, saying: "She deserved to walk, and she did."
The father of the girl's child -- also a senior at the school -- was allowed to participate in the graduation.
It was okay for the father, but not the mother. Patriachal to a fault.
Even many parents and moms favor the boys over the girls. Makes me sick.
Is it any wonder that men become so macho.

I applaud her for going through with the pregnancy...while I understand the pressure the school was probably under to keep a pregant, unwed teen out of sight on graduation day, I think that if we really want to show that we respect life we need to repect even unwed mothers...she may have made a mistake but her courage is admirable IMHO...shame/ shunning is not very Christian.
If the father had been identified to the school, then I agree that he should not have participated either.
There is a reason for that, and the reason is sound.

Unless of course your the guy who got her pregnant. Then they don't apply.
Once again the "I deserve it" takes precendent over rules. Kids today are taught by lesson and example if you think you deserve something it doesn't matter whether there is a law or rule against it, go get it.
They’re smart enough not to get pregnant.
Evidentally the gown wasn't big enough. Men don't show when they are pregnant.
I heard a statistic quoted once by Dr. Laura (I think), that if a girl does three things, she has a 90% chance of not living in poverty, they are:
1. Graduate from high school
2. Don't get pregnant, until you graduate.
3. Marry the father of your child.
As much as I'd like to say the school is wrong for not letting her walk, it is a private school and they get to make the rules. People favor the son at times because girls are psycho when they are teenagers.
God made men and women different. Thankfully.
They could have just put a Scarlett "P" on her gown and let her walk./sarcasm
Inability to honor rules and consider other people's points of view is a sure sign of a trashy person.
We can admire the woman's spunk, but there is more than enough of that in America today. What we need is more respect for authority. You can't just make up your own rules. That means chaos.
What was wrong with either one of them participating?
They have maternity prom dresses now. It's expect at least some of the girls will be pregnant. Wouldn't want to disappoint.
