TBILISI, Georgia (AP) -- The FBI said Wednesday that a grenade thrown in the crowd during last week's speech by President Bush in the Georgian capital was capable of exploding and was considered a threat against the president. The statement by agent Bryan Paarmann contradicted initial reports by Georgian officials that the grenade was not capable of exploding and had been found on the ground. The grenade, wrapped in a dark handkerchief, fell about 100 feet from the podium where Bush was speaking May 10 and "simply failed to function," he said. "We consider this act to be a threat against the health and welfare of the president of the United States as well as the welfare of the multitudes of Georgian people who turned up for this event," Paarmann said. Bush spoke to tens of thousands of people in Freedom Square, a main plaza in Tbilisi. He offered strong support for Georgia's democratic development following the 2003 Rose Revolution. The crowd response was overwhelmingly favorable. I read the full article from the link......and found NO definitive confirmed description of the grenade as a frag grenade...
It could have been ANYTHING.....and perhaps lethal at 100 feet..
Of course with Mr. Grenade --- any freaking thing can happen after his fuze ignites ---- panic, chaos, riot, secondary explosions, etc, etc......could have injured the President..
Grenades can be used to simply set things in motion, and allow the real attack to commence while everyone's attention is captured and focused on the GRENADE and NOT the President..
It would be foolish to regard this "dud attack" as harmless.
It could even have been simply a test of security reactions..

So most people say, anyway. A few still claim that he was killed in the 1944 bombing, replaced by a look-a-like that the Nazis had used for decoy appearances... an explanation, though not generally accepted, that would help explain not only his bizarre post-1944 behavior but also why no one ever found his body.
Who's to say? There are probably quite a few attempts on his life that are not reported. It's kinda like the CIA where success is not reported so as to not alert everyone when we're on to them.
Some things are better kept quiet with no glory going to anyone.

The will of God is hard to explain. If I had a PhD in Theology and focused on that only, I might have something intelligent to say...
Before I get knee deep in a subject about God's will, I have to preface the discussion that I have seen many things in my life that are not explainable except by the Supernatural (God and the world of spirits -- good and evil).
In the case of the Wolf's Lair bomb-blast, Hitler was severely wounded. Rommel (the Desert Fox) was part of the plot to kill Hitler (and died for being part of the plot).
If Hitler had been killed, it is possible someone sane may have taken over Germany and killed more Americans, British and Russians.
The timing of the Wolf's Lair attempt on Hitler's life was around the time of the Normandy invasion (after it as I recall) but before the Battle of the Bulge.
The Battle of the Bulge helped to shorten the war -- Hitler used all of Germany's manpower reserves in this insane attempt to split the Allied front in the West. This may have saved many lives by Germany having many soldiers captured in the Battle of the Bulge. And it may have saved the lives of many in Concentration Camps [the war being shortened]. Finally, by shortening the war in Europe, it may have saved many Allied lives and Allied soldiers from being wounded.
Everbody agrees Hitler was a madman -- and his crazy ideas probably help end the war quicker.
As for President Bush, many people pray for him. So it is reasonable to believe God may have not only protected him but also the Secret Service (who would have been more likely to have been injured).
What you are talking about is more about God's will than anything else. And that is a heavy subject. Why did so many Americans die in the Civil War battles of Shiloh Meeting House and Gettysburg? Why did the weather turn in the favor of the Allies on D-Day (the 6th of June 1944)? Why did the United States win the all-important battle of Midway by a just a few planes in the right place at the right time?
When you die you can ask God the question. If you are in heaven for all eternity, it may be a trivial matter. And after ten or twenty thousand years, you might have a complete understanding.

The President was speaking at a country that is Christian and ought not to know such action and adventure of houlligans in their country. It isn't right that a country that wants Christian Peace should be subjected to culprits making it a dangerous place for a Christian president.
Originally "luck" as a word had a sense of looking back on an event that was providential. But I agree that GOD is the FAITHFUL AUTHOR of Life, WHOSE Will is not controlled by the stars, but Which, much rather, has written a Plan on the stars, which serve not only to indicate time, but Signs. Different people use English differently - but the SPIRIT inspires the same Amen to right Prayers of every linguistic style.

Something similar happened to Patton. In his diary he recorded a day where he was transiting a road by car when a German artillery position started lobbing shells. The shells got closer and closer to the car. The third shell ended up exploding about 40 yards away. The fourth and last landed just beside the passing car, two feet from the running board, the mud splattering the General.
It was a dud.
Amazing.
