Welcome, all you Freepers, to the continuing C-span soap operas about judicial nominations. "The Guiding SEARCHLIGHT, " "As the SENATE Turns, "One NOMINATION to Live" "GERIATRIC Hospital" (for all you Byrd and Lautenberg fans out there). Follow along with us, as the Dems raise the level of histrionics, bloviation, pontification, and all around bad acting to new highs, er, lows...
If only the American public saw it that way.
They will not. They will see it as a bind on women only.
I had an Aunt die from an illegal abortion. This was in Maryland but I was young and only knew she died.
That shaped my immature vision of the issue. For years, YEARS, I marched and chanted and carried water for the women's lib movement.
It's a scary issue. Many women, even of the conservative type, don't want to hear it.
Even I, who now thinks abortion should almost NEVER be necessary, would not want to see abortion outlawed completely. I'm thinking of that twelve year old made pregnant by her own father. I would graciously agree, however, to a national vote on the issue.
As for states deciding, well okay. But if that twelve year old is pregnant in Florida and the closest state for legal abortion is Wisconsin...
I can hear the sound bytes now.
You need to click on cspan-2
the 5-6 are red state dems...
OH NO..........THE SAUCER!
Reid brings up Bolton? How pertinent...
OMG. The Jerfferson to Washington reference was just plain pathetic.
Oh, NOOOOOO, the cooling saucer thingy.
CA is right.
Cal supreme court justices are put on the ballot to be retained or dismissed (and replaced by appointment by the governor). The most prominent case was Justice Bird, an outrageious example of liberal judicial activistm...in the 80's I believe. The voters dumped her the first chance they got.
"It's already started. The dems are going to try to interrupt by asking if Frist will yield for a question."
This plays both ways. Asking a question (interrupting) and being shot down can be portrayed by the Lib media as a Republican tactic to prevent intellectual debate.
Not going to work.
. It's essentially the Dems "compromise" proposal from last week. Glad to see that Frist ain't biting...
This is the best indication that Frist knows he has the votes, and so does Reid.
HOWEVER - SOMETIME DURING THIS, MAKE SURE YOU GET ON THE PHONE TO LET THEM ALL KNOW YOU CARE !!!
(And - don't forget to pray for the Senate, and the nation)
Yep, sure glad Tony is back in the chair in time for this one. He just explained the Constitutional Option to a caller. He sounds pretty confident about our side following through with it.
Isn't that a a refernce to a female?
We are very lucky that Reid is so inept.
"The ideologues in the Senate want to turn what the founding fathers called the 'cooling saucer of democracy' into the rubber stamp of dictatorship," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.
I recommend a fine extra-sharp white cheddar with this whine . . . The Dem's got nuthin' except hot air.
Imagine if Bush had done that!

Howlin, can you add RobFromGa to your ping list?
