Did she have a seizure because of another problem? The article doesn't state this. There are many children who are vegetarian and vegan who have no problems. That won't sell newspapers though.

Guess the kids weren't breastfed,or they'd be healthier.
Personally, i'd plop the kids down in front of a thick juicy steak and a nice salad,and they'd be just fine.

We get a side of beef every 16-18 months (5 of us at the dinner table), approx. 220lbs of packaged beef. Kids aren't fat nor are they too skinny. It's good to be a carnivore:
I switched to a vegetarian diet 3 months ago for health reasons (yes, it has worked and is working). I have to say that it is not for everyone...and you do need to be mature enough to make a conscious decision about it. The parents in this case are thoroughly insane.

FWIW, there were a couple of kids of fanatical vegans in my carpool in elementary school. They were the palest, skinniest, sickliest, dullest children around -- they couldn't pay attention in class, never ran around on the playground. Whatever bug was going around, they caught it first, had it worst, and recovered last. Even we other kids KNEW something wasn't right.
Another kid in the carpool was the daughter of our pediatrician. He was absolutely livid over the whole situation - heard him agonizing with my parents over whether/how to intervene. I don't know what if anything he ever did . . . grownup stuff.
I suppose it may be theoretically possible to raise a kid on a vegan diet . . . although our pediatrician disagreed (said there were certain nutrients that growing children needed that could only be obtained from meat protein). But I don't think most parents are equipped to do the sort of careful dietary regulation that would be necessary to make it work . . . and I wonder if any parent other than the independently wealthy would have the TIME.

They will openly admit that veganism is only a lifestyle that can be healthily maintained by mature adults.
Jeez. I weighed one ounce less than that AT BIRTH. Even if you object to animal products, feed the kid some damn French fries or something & she'll put on weight. These parents should be whipped with chains.

I did not reach the top of the food chain just to graze like a prey species..... Nothing against the Vegetarians but..... if you are going to feed your children that kind of diet AT LEAST USE SUPPLIMENTS! CALCIUM AT THE LEAST FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Do you know what you are doing to your children.... when they get older they will curse the ground you are buried in because they won't be able to DO anything as their skeletal structure will be TO DAMN WEAK!!!
