Kansas Board Holding Evolution Hearings

TOPEKA, Kan. - Witnesses trying to persuade Kansas officials to encourage more criticism of evolution in public school classrooms are making statements some scientists say betrayed creationist views.

Witnesses in a State Board of Education hearing on how the theory should be taught also have acknowledged they hadn't fully read evolution-friendly science standards proposed by educators. Nor had two of three presiding board members.

Board member Kathy Martin, of Clay Center, elicited groans of disbelief from a few audience members when she acknowledged she had only scanned the proposal, which is more than 100 pages. Later, board member Connie Morris, of St. Francis, also said she had only scanned it.

Martin said during a break: "I'm not a word-for-word reader in this kind of technical information."

What I posted stated she "criticized evolution". In what way, I don't know. But I do know the result of her criticism.

And again your response is I'm a liar.

Or you're ignorant of the context. But since this is the second time you've ignored the fact that I present an either or situation and instead claim that I'm declaring an absolute, I'd say that the more likely situation is that you're a liar.

Trying to defend your falsehoods by attacking me for pointing them out does not make you look good.

What you posted said that she thought that "life from molecules" is impossible. That's not a criticism of evolution, though, because evolution doesn't say anything about "life from molecules".

ONCE AGAIN, you don't read what is in front of you. Maybe you should have studied reading comprehension as much as you did evolution!

I did read it. It said only that she believed that "molecules to life" is impossible. It said nothing whatsoever about her position on evolution. It did say that she criticized evolution, but it gave no information as to how she did it. Moreover, you offered no reference for your quote, so I can't look it up and find out just how accurate it is.

Irigonegaray hoped to show that intelligent design is a religious concept. He asked Carlson, "In your opinion, the intelligent designer is God, is it not?"

Carlson replied: "Well, yeah, I would agree with that."

Asked to explain the appearance of humans on Earth, witness John Sanford, an associate professor of horticultural sciences at Cornell University, said: "My explanation, humbly offered, is that we were specially created."

All to be taught in science classes.

These folks don't seem to agree that "the theory of evolution is atheism."

Or these.

FWIW.

Unfortunately, irresponsible scientists like Provine who are more interested in atheism than science are more than happy to give them amunition. I'm convinced much of the opposition to evolution would cease if people like Provine and Dawkins would stick to science and stop trying to link it to atheism.

If they didn't have any genuine crackpots speaking outside of their field, they'd just use more out-of-context mined quotes.

Yeah, but a lot of religious people would be less hostile to evolution if it were not (erroneously) linked to atheism by such high-profile scientists. Saying that evolution allows you to be an intellectually satisfied atheist simply does not help.

I'm a bit frustrated, actually, at how impreceptive so many people on our side of the debate are on this matter. For some months now, I've been trying to convince people on pro-evolution boards or discussion lists, including FR, that they need to distance themselves from all this atheism stuff.

More often than not, they don't even hear me out. They just say science should be accepted on its merits, that it shouldn't matter that it's getting linked to atheism, that poeple like Dawkins and Provine have every right to their beliefs, etc., etc. etc.

Either they're blind to political reality, or that they care more about atheism than the advancement or science. I can't figure out which.

I was from the article we are all responding to! You are exasperating! If you would like, I will gladly Google her name and get you some additional information. The article said she critized evolution in a speech and eventually lost her job. What part don't you comprehend???

Do you believe in God?

That is an irrelevant question for this thread. If I want to talk about faith, I will go to the religion forums.

I always ask you that question and you refuse to answer. Why is it most people who swear by evolution don't believe in God? Which came first - atheists or evolutionists?

Anyone, atheist or theist, who claims that evolution is inherently athiestic is either lying or woefully ignorant.

You obviously do not know enough about theology to make that distinction. However, William Provine said evolution is atheistic, and he was one of the leading spokesmen for the Darwinists. Charles Hodge, professor of systematic theology at Princeton, was the leading theologian in the United States, and he said evolution is atheistic. I'm a theologian, and I say it's atheistic. I could go on and on with witnesses, and they would all refute you in claiming it is atheistic.
