LOUISVILLE, Ky. The richest Kentucky Derby in history goes to the post today under the shadow of the Twin Suites.
It's a new era at Churchill Downs: The first $2 million purse, the unveiling of $121 million worth of massive rebuilding, the first trainer to have five horses with five different owners and the first entrant whose owner is paying $200,000 for the right to run.
For 27-year-old jockey Javier Castellano, it's another first his first Derby. And when the field goes to the starting gate at 5:04 p.m. CDT, Castellano will be aboard Bellamy Road, the morning-line favorite owned by New York Yankees boss George Steinbrenner. Bellamy Road is one of a record-tying five horses saddled by trainer Nick Zito.

Wow, some are works of art others are.......scary!!
Here is Afleet Alexs' story, I knew it would be good.
"He's been kind of an underdog," says his trainer, Tim Ritchey. "He had to overcome a lot of things right from birth. And so far, he's lived up to the task."
Afleet Alex made it through his early days with the help of Lauren Silvertand, then 9 years old, the daughter of breeder John Silvertand. She gave the hungry foal milk from a Coors Light bottle. It was 12 days before a nurse mare could be found to take over the feeding.
Ritchey did not know that background when he purchased the son of Northern Afleet for $75,000 on behalf of the five-member Cash is King Stable at a sale for 2-year-olds in training in Timonium, Md., in May 2004. But he soon came to observe that there was something different about this horse's manner when compared to others he had dealt with.
"He bonded with people in a very special way, and I think that has helped him quite a bit," the trainer said. "He has a lot of trust in people, and I think he's a special horse
