WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - A pastor of a small Baptist church led an effort to kick out church members because they didn't support President Bush, members said.
The nine members were voted out at a Monday meeting of the East Waynesville Baptist Church in this mountain town about 120 miles west of Charlotte. WLOS-TV in Asheville reported that 40 other members resigned in protest.
"It's all over politics," said Selma Morris, the church's treasurer. "We've never had a pastor like that before."
Pastor Chan Chandler had told the congregation before last year's presidential election that anyone who planned to vote for Democratic Sen. John Kerry should either leave the church or repent, said Lorene Sutton, who said she and her husband were voted out of the church this week.
"He's the kind of pastor who says do it my way or get out," she said. "He's real negative all the time......

"Lorene Sutton, who said she and her husband were voted out of the church this week."
Well, she should start counting her savings and blessings (savings from being expelled is one of them).

Good way to rid the pews of wolves in sheep's clothing. Kerry voters are trying to hijack all of the churches. This Pastor was clearly trying to protect the flock.

Even though no one (especially not pastors) would say so, I'll just bet this is the way many folks thought. I'd also be willing to bet that if some pastors were allowed to say it without losing tax-exempt status, they would've.
Just my .02....

It's not about politics or opinion but about what the
Word of God says about SIN
Abortion, Adultery, Pornography,Lying,Theft,Jealousy,Murder
False Witness,Idol Worship,Gossip,Pride,Arrogant looks,
Hard Hearts,Stiff Necked, etc
Those who call good..evil and evil...good
If they refuse to repent and hold to a sinful lifestyle as
their right..
Then they need to find another place to worship whatever god it is they think they are entitled to worship 'their way'
As The Shepherd of that congregation he is quite possibly just doing what God as instructed him to do...
Though the article skews the facts in order
to taint the pastors motives..and push a more liberal agenda
imo

Where I come from, Baptists don't believe in abortion and John Kerry does.
It's really as simple as that.

I'm not Baptist, but there's one saying I love.
"You can't be Catholic and pro-choice"
To: MahaMarty
Why do I feel guilty for laughing?Because you're a fool, maybe? If my pastor told me who to vote for, I'd tell him to take a hike. (Is anyone here capable of fixing this ancient software? I'm tired of tagging and flagging everything.)

That is not quite accurate. Ratzinger was in reality trying to get some bishops to persist in discouraging voters from voting for a Democrat. The reason would be that a Catholic could vote in good conscience for a pro-abortion candidate if they had other reasons for doing so.
"A Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil, and so unworthy to present himself for Holy Communion, if he were to deliberately vote for a candidate precisely because of the candidate's permissive stand on abortion and/or euthanasia. [But] When a Catholic does not share a candidate's stand in favor of abortion and/or euthanasia, but votes for that candidate for other reasons, it is considered remote material cooperation, which can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reasons."

I thought this article was a joke at first. But there could be some good come from this. If lots of ministers do the same thing and then lose their tax exemption, maybe we could save Social Security with the extra income. LOL!
