On a day of carnage, it was an intimate image: a soldier clutching a child in his arms.
When Amy Bieger, mother of three boys, wife of an infantryman in Iraq, saw the picture on the Internet on Tuesday night, she stared at the little feet dangling in the nook of the man's arm, at the soldier's helmeted head pressed to the child's face. She stared and tears welled up.
"I said 'Oh my God, it is one of our soldiers,'" Bieger, 34, said yesterday from her home outside the Fort Lewis, Wash., Army post. "Then I stared at the [name] patch. I made out the rank and then the last four letters of the name and I knew it was my husband."

NO! This picture need NOT be seared into the heart of the American people!! Those who know America, those who love America, already know and understand that this picture exactly represents what the America stands for!
So let some FReeper juxtapose the picture of this soldier (who is an officer) clutching this dead child with a picture of the American leftist slug holding a sign saying that they support our troops when they shoot their officers! Juxtapose these pictures and you will see the very graphic representation of why there is a deep political divide in this country.
Lord, we need some justice here.

I lifted my tagline from a soldier's comment earlier this year. It means more than ever now.
I cried when I saw that picture.
That child died in the arms of a loving, caring man.
Oh thank you for the posting of this wonderful story. This is the first I've heard of it. Our soldiers WEEP over children, the terrorists blow them up. God bless the USA!
Yeah. I used to be proud to be an American.
Seeing our soldiers in action in Iraq has changed that.
I'm now deeply humbled to be an American. I can only aspire to be as worthy of that title as they have shown themselves to be.
Baylee Ahmon (from OKC). I think that was her name. Bless her heart and the man holding her.
I wonder what the little Iraqi girl's name was. I did manage to see a small phot of this yesterday. I feel for the soldiers who have to see this, they cannot be the same after experiencing these horros. Bless them and keep them safe.
This isn't the first time the terrorists have attacked when our soldiers are around kids.
Every one of those murdering bastards needs to die a slow horrible, excruciating death....
Our soldiers are the most compassionate in the world, especially when it comes to the kids. This entire situation just sucks, but it shows what an AMERICAN soldier is all about.
It was like that when I was there for a year, and it will never change.
Gotta be. We're swimming in cheap gas here...
May almighty God shed His mercy and protection upon our troops.
The girl was fatally wounded according to the article.
God's venegeance upon those who harm the innocent.
The men who made the terror bombs should suffer for it.
Must be somthin' in my eyes....
That was very well put, null. I feel the same.
I've told several Soldiers that very thing. I get an odd look on the first line..
