(Buffalo, NY, May 4, 2005) - - You're seeing this story first right here! He missed four meetings in a row, and News 4's Mylous Hairston has learned that Erie County lawmaker Chuck Swanick will soon hop a train and return to his old career as a railroad engineer.
After 25 years in County Hall, Chuck Swanick may be riding the rails out of the Erie County legislature. News 4 has confirmed the Republican lawmaker has a job lined up with CSX.
James Louis, chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local 421, said, "Chuck Swanick has re-applied to come back to work as a locomotive engineer." Swanick has been on a leave of absence from CSX since he was first elected to the legislature in 1980.
Sources tell me his decision to return to the rail is tied to Erie County's budget crisis and poor polling numbers for re-election. His training locally is set to start within the next two weeks at a Kenmore railyard.
Louis said, "He is going through all the documents and the papers that he needs to do to fulfill that, and we expect him to be coming back to work on the railroad in the very near future."
Just five days ago, Swanick only had this to say about rumors he was training in Atlanta for a return to his train career that started in 1967: "I was on personal family business. It is unusual for me, I will admit, to be away."
James Louis confirms that Atlanta is a training site for CSX employees, and that Swanick has been been planning for a job outside the legislature for some time.
Louis said, "I believe this started, for Mr. Swanick, back sometime in February or March, when he first started to approach the carrier, so it's been going on for the last couple of months."
I made numerous attempts to contact legislator Swanick. He has not returned any of my calls regarding his future in the Erie County legislature. Sources tell me he is expected to make a decision on whether to seek another term by the end of the week.
Great news, Rus. Good luck; you know we are in your corner. Too bad I'm not in Erie County.
Keep the pressure on.
Thank you for those kind words! It is easy to encourage a man who is working so hard to make a positive difference in an area that has seen nothing but negativity for so long!
Now about Texas.........if you just can't take it any more up there with all the DUmmies, we can use a few good men down here, too! LOL! (I am very happy to be here instead of there--no offence!)
I'm pulling for you Rus.
Dub
Thank you Amy..I could use your vote... : )
None taken, I can't blame you. We are going to turn this place around. But if all else fails, find me a house.
Thanks Dub..
Hey you two!
LOL! There are plenty down here up for grabs--and plenty that could use your home-building expertise--including mine!
You should be a shoe-in now Rus!
Lets see if the Repub committie in that area dares to challenge you!
Did you see on the news that Giambra clocked into the Leg the $60 million hole? Swanick was right there with him. I bet he brings the sales tax issue to the floor.
I will be there tomorrow. I am watching their every move.
No, missed it. I'm in Austin right now. What happened?
They have to file 1/4 ly reports, yet this is the first one since summer.
Giambra has to claim a deficit so he need to clock it in.
Swanick was right there by his side. Then Giambra says,
I need help, I need a revenue, they have to show leadership..
Leadership? Where has he been, he has been derelict in his duties.
Is stuck on one thing-----, a revenue.
I swear he is driving us into the ground..
Swanick, says the report, will be starting back with the railroad in the near future.......
I wonder if he steps down, who will fill his slot?
Me?
I'll keep you posted..
Go get 'em Mayor!!
I think Joel's been planning on reserecting the sales tax increase since Feb. He just does NOT get it!
If Chuck leaves before the election, how or will the position be filled?
Ecellent news to hear, TM!!
Keep on keepin' on!!
I will and Thanks!
I am not absolutley sure.
I think the Republicans have to appoint someone.
I don't think they will call a special election.
I will ask Jim Ostrowski.
If they appoint, I would stand a good chance.
There would be one more no vote, mine, chuck will vote yes.
I gotta hit the sack. See you when you get home.
Who's district are you in?
Wonderful, Your Honor! Our Sweet Lord's Blessings Attend Everything you Do for the Cause of Righteousness!
Amen Kitty!
