Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

What strikes me most is that it isn't the people of the "Christian Right" en masse that seem to want to throw stones at Laura Bush. I don't see the new Pope denouncing her jokes. I don't see the catholic priests rising up. I don't see the Grahams making waves. I don't see Robertson or Falwell or Dobson out there condeming her to hell. I don't think my minister is going to have a sermon Sunday on what a disgrace our First Lady is. I don't see the American people lighting up the White House experiencing palpitations because the First Lady said her husband didn't know the difference between a male and a female cow. There was absolutely nothing dirty about that joke, except in the minds of those that wished dirt. It didn't even occur to me until I read it from people on this site!
So who exactly IS condeming Laura? The very Fringe of the Right pretending to be something they are not? Liberals in disguise? I wager it is both.
Oh, I think this whole thread just about proves that point. LOL
Im Teddy Roosevelt...Bully....
Oh, yes, disagreeing with a couple of the First Lady's statements is just like beating her with a stick for showing her ankle, don't you know.
LOL!
I'll wager you're exactly right. And that's the frustration with the internet. We've learned to use it as a powerful tool, but so has the left. It's anonymouse.
That's why I've been interested to ask everyone for five days now that I talk with in real life, what did they think. And not one person has been upset. This is manufactured outrage with a little of the extremist element who has problems with women thrown in for good measure.
WOW...I want that!
But next time I'll pretend to be someone younger :-)
I was in a group once in high school...LOL
those that are up in arms 'bout this speech really do need to get a grip. For one thing, all those against the jokes repeatedly quote it as "masturbating" a horse. For one thing?? THAT isn't even said!! Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. I thought it was in perfectly good taste and those that are having palpitations over this REALLY seriously need to take a GOOD look at what she ACTUALLY said and what they think they heard because I am sure it's vastly different. Get off of your pious high horses and consider this bringing a little bit of levity to usual serious business of politics.
That's a bit paranoid, you know.
I have been amazed at how many times I've seen the words "penis" and "masturbation" and "jerking off" posted on these threads.
You just get the feeling that it won't be long before somebody uses the D-word.
They seem to REALLY like typing those words.
We need our own MMP to protect our FReeper borders against the immigrant trolls/frauds/Bush haters.
There you go again with THAT weak a$$ed worn out diatribe about who was here the longest.
Give it up.
NOBODY cares about how LONG you, me, or anyone else has been here.
Now are you going to add to the debate or continue to insult everyone who disagrees with you?
There is no doubt that this discussion is being driven by liberals who hope it could become a wedge issue, and those folks who cut the underwear section out of the Sears catalog before leaving it sitting around the house.
Glad you've been coming here for years. I'm King Tut.
This coming from the guy who compared the First Lady with the Clintons.
Congratulations....
I have been here a long time.
Your posts in this thread have qualified you as the single most delusion and paranoid old coot I have ever seen.
I imagine you've hiding under the bed in your basement from the FR "Taliban" for some time...
It's a foregone conclusion that even the Swiss psychiatric community has rejected you as "hopeless."
